Sophomore Saraiah Walkes had a day to remember as the Eastern Michigan University women’s indoor track and field team got the New Year started with an appearance at the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 7.
Walkes led Eastern Michigan to two of the team’s 11 victories (more team/individual wins than any other participant, including the University of Michigan). After helping her team secure a victory in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:52.11, Walkes shined individually with her performance in the 300m. In addition to finishing in first place, Walkes’ time of 38.77 seconds in the event was a personal best and also goes as a school record for Eastern Michigan. EMU’s previous best mark was set by Jasmine Jones in 2018.
