Mariah Taylor Named MAC Field Athlete of the Week

Taylor broke the triple jump school record with a MAC-leading mark of 12.92m
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University track and field student-athlete Mariah Taylor was named Mid-American Conference (MAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, April 28.
Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) earned the honor for the first time in her collegiate career, as she now leads the conference with her personal best leap of 12.92m (42-04.75), finishing third at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, April 23-25. The performance ranks 45th nationally, and broke the EMU school record.
This is the first time a member of the women's team has earned the accolade for Eastern this season. Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) was the last women's recipient of a weekly award April 15, 2025, earning Women's Track Athlete of the Week after running two MAC-best times (23.30 in the 200m and 52.88 in the 400m) at the 44 Farms Team Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M, April 11-12.
The last time a member of the women's team won Field Athlete of the Week for Eastern was in the 2024 outdoor season, as Miranda Cadwell earned the recognition after throwing an EMU school record and MAC-leading hammer throw of 62.01m (203-05) at the Jim Click Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona, April 5-6.
Most recently earning an award for Eastern this season was Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive), earning Men's Field Athlete of the Week April 14, after a personal best toss in the hammer throw of 63.76m (209-02) at the Spec Towns Invitational, hosted by the University of Georgia, April 9-11, ranking second in the MAC and improving his No. 7 mark in program history. He has since improved his best toss to 64.29m (210-11), holding the second-best mark in the conference and moving up to No. 6 in Eastern's record book.
