Jones became the ninth Eastern Michigan University student-athlete to earn an Olympic medal
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents formally recognized Jasmine Jones, an EMU alum and former track and field standout, for her historic bronze-medal performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, during its Oct. 15 meeting.
Jones became Eastern's first Winter Olympian when she represented Team USA in the two-woman bobsleigh competition alongside pilot Kaillie Armbruster Humphries. The duo opened Olympic competition with a track-record 56.92 seconds in the first heat, taking first place after the opening run. They continued their strong performance with a 57.24-second run in the second heat, entering the second day of competition in third place overall and leading all three U.S. teams.
Jones and Humphries posted a time of 57.57 seconds in the third heat before securing the bronze medal with a combined four-run time of 3:49.21. Their accomplishment earned Jones a place in EMU athletics history and added to the University's rich Olympic legacy.
With the medal, Jones became the ninth Eastern Michigan University student-athlete to earn an Olympic medal and the first EMU athlete to medal at the Olympic Games since Earl Jones won bronze in the 800 meters at the 1984 Olympics.
Through a formal resolution, the Board of Regents congratulated Jones on her extraordinary achievement and commended her for the honor and distinction she has brought to herself, her teammates and Eastern Michigan University.
