Track & Field Readies for MAC Outdoor Championships

The men are going for their 25th outdoor conference title while the women are shooting for No. 13
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs will pursue respective Mid-American Conference (MAC) outdoor championships as the Eagles are set to begin postseason competition at the 2025 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Ball State University, at Briner Sports Complex, in Muncie, Ind., Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16.
Fans can access live results, heat sheets, a meet schedule, and both the men's and women's respective MAC Outdoor Record Books using the 2026 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Central Page. Those looking to attend the meet can purchase tickets here.

Last Time at MAC Outdoor Championships
At last year's MAC Outdoor Championships, the women finished in second with 115 points, while the men finished third with 156 points. Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) highlighted the Eagles, as she was named Most Valuable Performer after scoring 38 points, with titles in the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m.
The men's team earned six event titles, with returners including Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) in the 1,500m, Mill Coleman III (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) as a part of the 4x100m relay, Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School/Lenoir-Rhyne), Bamidele Ajayi (Eikiti State, Nigeria Metropolitan International College Lenoir-Rhyne), and Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) as members of the 4x400m relay, and Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) in the hammer throw.
The women earned a total of four event wins. In addition to Walkes, returning champions include Mia Biehl (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial), and Demetria Henderson (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) as members of the 4x400m relay.
Last Time Out: Two-Meet Week
Eastern saw two in-state meets to conclude the regular season, traveling to the Hillsdale College Last Chance meet Wednesday, May 6, followed by the University of Michigan's Len Paddock Open in Ann Arbor, May 8.
The Hillsdale Last Chance was highlighted by five event wins. For the men, Leland Godfrey (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) won the shot put at 16.69 meters (54-09.25). Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy) won the long jump at 7.20 meters (23-07.50), matching his career best, and Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) won the 400m hurdles in 52.95. On the women's side, Alba Viñals Calixto (Arinsal, Andorra/Escola Andorrana de Segona Ensenyança d'Ordino) continued her stellar debut year by winning the 400m hurdles in 1:01.11. In distance, Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) took top honors in the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:05.98.
At the Len Paddock Open, the Eagles saw two triple jump edits made to the program record book, as Gabe Oliveira (São Paulo, Brazil/Escola Estadual Jornalista David Nasser/Central Arizona) won the men's triple jump with a personal best of 15.54m (51-00.00), which enters him at No. 7 on the EMU all-time list, and Mariia Yelanska (Dnipro, Ukraine) set a new personal best with 12.56m (41-02.50) in the triple jump, good for second place and No. 6 on the EMU all-time outdoor list. An additional highlight from the meet came from Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), as she captured first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.02.
Track & Field Athletes of the Week: Hawkins and Oliveira
Hawkins and Oliveira swept the men's side of conference weekly awards, as Hawkins earned MAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, and Oliveira earned MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, May 12.
Hawkins earned the honor for the first time after winning the 400m hurdles at the Hillsdale Last Chance meet, hosted by Hillsdale College, May 6, with a season-best time of 52.95. His performance ranks second in the MAC and was the top 400m hurdles time in the conference this past week.
Oliveira also earned the accolade for the first time as he won the triple jump at the Len Paddock Open, hosted by the University of Michigan, May 8, with a personal-best mark of 15.54m (51-00.00). Competing in his first triple jump event since winning the indoor MAC title, Oliveira's mark leads the MAC by more than a foot, ranks 26th in the NCAA East Region, and is seventh-best in EMU program history.

- The 4x400m relay team of Olawole Olanrewaju, Bamidele Ajayi, Jamyle Anderson, and Tajay Roberts hold the second fastest spot with a time of 3:08.79
- Lucky Fiaku leads the conference in the high jump with a clearance of 2.05m (6-08.75)
- Gabe Oliveira leads the MAC in the triple jump with a 15.54m (51-00.00) best mark
- Ray Glory-Ejoyokah holds spot No. 3 in the discus throw with a toss of 55.02m (180-6)
- Jake McEachern's hammer throw of 64.29m (210-11) ranks second
Women's Team
- Saraiah Walkes is second in the MAC in the 200m with a time of 23.30, along with having the third fastest time in the 100m of 11.58
- Saraiah Walkes and Josephine Oloye hold the second (53.51) and third (54.03) spots in the 400m, respectively
- The 4x400m relay team of Uduak Udosoh, Saraiah Walkes, Josephine Oloye, and Demetria Henderson lead the MAC with a time of 3:33.86 (school record)
- Mariah Taylor holds the best triple jump in the conference with a 12.92m (42-04.75) mark (school record)
