Seven Program Top 10 Marks Highlight Day One of MAC Outdoor Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University track and field kicked off the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Championships at Ball State University - Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Ind., Thursday, May 14, seeing a combined total of seven program top 10 marks and multiple scoring performances to highlight day one.

The men's team is tied for fourth with 21 points and the women are tied for 10th with two points after the first day of competition.
 
How it Happened: Men
On the men's side, DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) scored six championship points with a third-place discus finish and personal best of 53.60m (175-10), which also ranks fifth in EMU program history.

Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) finished day one of the decathlon in fourth (3,434 points, ranking sixth in program history), highlighted by a win in the high jump with a clearance of 1.93m (6-04.00), the fourth best all-time at EMU for the decathlon high jump. Doolittle also threw an 11.32m (37-01.75) in shot put, the ninth best mark in program history for the decathlon shot put.

Julien Badoo (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) rounded out five events in the decathlon to stand in ninth with decathlon program top-10 marks in the 100m dash (11.57 for No. 7) and the high jump (1.81m, 5-11.25 for No. 10).

Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) scored three points with a sixth-place run in the 10,000m (30:08.42).

Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive), Samuel Jeffery (Fonthill, Ontario/E.L. Crossley Secondary), Nathan Gaspersic (Painesville, Ohio/Painesville Riverside), and Sam Vesperman (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) each contributed field event points on opening day.
 
How it Happened: Women
For the women, Faith Moore (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) delivered a career-best 51.96m for seventh place in the hammer throw. Her mark not only scored both of EMU's team points and set a new season lead, but moved her to No. 8 on the program's all-time outdoor list.

In the 400m hurdles, Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) advanced to the final with a personal best of 1:00.34, just missing the program's top 10.

Multi-event action featured Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), who closed the first day of the heptathlon in seventh place with 2,991 points, highlighted by a win in the 100m hurdles (13.93, improving her No. 2 all-time mark in the program for the heptathlon). Additionally, she cleared 1.52m (4-11.75) in the heptathlon high jump, ranking fifth in heptathlon program history.

Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) advanced to the 200m dash final after a 23.76 in prelims.
