MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University track and field soared on day two of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Outdoor Championships at the Briner Sports Complex Friday, May 15, climbing the standings with personal bests, program top-10 marks, and a deep group of Saturday qualifiers.
The women's team made a major jump to sixth, the men held fourth, and the Eagles will be represented in nearly every final on championship day.
How it Happened - Women
The women's squad delivered its largest scoring day of the meet, leaping from 10th to sixth with 16 points. Savannah Breitwiser (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central/Michigan State) set a career-best in the shot put at 14.31m (46-11.5) for fifth, landing No. 3 on EMU's all-time list.
Uduak Udosoh (Abak, Nigeria/Ibiaku Clan Community Secondary) posted a 53.56 in the 400m to qualify for finals and move to ninth all-time at EMU, with Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School) also advancing.
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door Academy) reached the 100m final in 11.63, while Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers) ran a personal best 2:09.28 to advance in the 800m.
The hurdles group of Nikol Antoniadi (Didimoticho, Greece/Geniko Lykeio Didimotichou), Liusmar Rivas Velasquez (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) and Mariah Taylor (East Lake, Fla./East Lake) all advanced to the 100m hurdles final, finishing within 0.013 seconds of each other.
In the multis, Shamoya Clemetson (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) wrapped up the heptathlon in fifth place. Clemetson saw a javelin throw of 34.26m (112-5), which ranks third all-time for the heptathlon javelin in program history. Additionally, she competed in the open long jump, securing a second-place finish and a personal best leap of 6.14m (20-01.75), good for the sixth best in program history.
How it Happened - Men
The men's team finished day two in fourth with 46 points. Cason Doolittle (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) won the decathlon 1500m in 4:35.54, breaking his own EMU decathlon 1500m record. He also ran the decathlon 110m hurdles in 15.44, fifth best all-time in the decathlon 110m hurdles for Eastern.
Julien Badoo (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) threw a personal best javelin throw in the decathlon of 41.89m (137-5), for ninth best in decathlon history for EMU, along with running the decathlon 1500m in 4:57.57 for ranking No. 8 in decathlon program history.
Kayenn Mabin (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central), Michael Hawkins (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) and Leo Ignacio (Saline, Mich./Saline) all advanced to the 110m hurdles final.
Bamidele Ajayi (Ekiti State, Nigeria/Metropolitan International College) ran 46.83 for the second seed in the 400m, with Olawole Olanrewaju (Akoko North-West, Nigeria/Wallas Universal Secondary School) and Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla./Dillard) joining him in the final.
Freshman Jamyle Anderson advanced in the 100m with a 10.71. Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School), Carson McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) all made the 800m final.
Andrew Azunque (Naples, Fla./First Baptist Academy) finished fourth in the long jump with a personal best 7.25m (23-09.50), while Gabe Oliveira (São Paulo, Brazil/Escola Estadual Jornalista David Nasser/Central Arizona) finished sixth with a leap of 7.06m (23-02.00).
Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) secured second place in the hammer throw with a 61.98m (203-4) mark, while DeMarrio Roetherford (Detroit, Mich./Wyandotte/Madonna) earned a personal best of 56.90m (186-8) for seventh place.
Also seeing a throws personal best was Mason Brodie (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) with a shot put of 15.91m (52-02.50).
