WESTFIELD, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, April 26-28,  at The Club at Chatham Hills. The University of Toledo will host the three-day, 54-hole event for the eight MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio, and Toledo.

The youthful Eagles have posted the sixth-lowest four-player team scoring average at 293.8. Overall, Eastern Michigan has finished in the top-10 at five different tournaments this season, including a fourth-place finish at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 15-16, 2023.

Senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) individually leads the team with an average of 72.0. His mark ranks third all-time in a single-season at Eastern Michigan, trailing only Beau Breault (2018-19 - 71.8) and Ty Celone (2018-19 - 71.9). Classmate Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) follows with a 74.26 season average, while freshman Avery Mahoney (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) has put together a solid campaign of his own, scoring an average of 74.52 this year.

The league's men's golf championship will be held at the 7,180-yard, par-72 The Club at Chatham Hills for the first time ever.

The Green and White will tee off at 9 a.m. ET. Friday morning. Rounds two and three are set for Saturday and Sunday, respectively, beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Fans can follow all the action via Golfstat.

Last year, EMU finished in seventh place with a three-day cumulative score of 894 (298-292-304). Northern Illinois University captured its first league title since 1985, finishing at five-over 869 (298-279-295) on the par 72, 7,237 yard Canebrake Golf Club course.

Kellett tied for fifth with an even-par 216 (73-71-72) for his second top-five finish of the 2022-23 campaign. Overall, it marked the best finish by an Eagle at the league's championship event since 2019 when Zach Sudinsky also placed fifth with a 145 (74-71=145) at the weather-shortened tournament at Club Walden in Aurora, Ohio. For his efforts, he earned All-Tournament honors from the league for the first time in his career.

Eastern Michigan last captured the league title in 2019. It marked Eastern Michigan's third all-time MAC men's golf championship after previously earning the trophy in 2007 and 2008.

Kent State is ranked No. 93 in the current Clippd rankings followed by Toledo (95), Ball State (103), Northern Illinois (125), Miami (132), Eastern Michigan (196), Bowling Green (232), Central Michigan (247), and Ohio (252).

The winner will receive the MAC's automatic bid to one of six NCAA Regional sites May 13-15. The 2024 regional sites are: The University of Texas Golf Club (Austin, Texas), University Club (Baton Rouge, La.), UNC Finley Golf Course (Chapel Hill, N.C.), The Farms Golf Club (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. ), Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif.)and the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (West Lafayette, Ind.).

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.

All 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter.

The 2024 national championships will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin and held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

In team match-play competition, a total of five points will be available with one point being awarded for each individual match. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals and subsequently, the finals. The first team to win three points within the team match will advance, or in the case of the final match, be declared the national champion.
