Four Eagles Finish Inside Top-25 at MAC Championship

Eastern Michigan shot its best score of the weekend to finish sixth overall

WESTFIELD, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team posted its best round of the weekend to finished in sixth place at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship with a three-day cumulative score of 882 (295-296-291). Ball State University captured its first league title since 1986, finishing at 10-under 854 (283-280-291) on the par 72, 7,180 yard The Club at Chatham Hills course.
Senior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) posted the best MAC Championship showing of his career, finishing tied for 17th with 220 (75-73-72).
The Cardinals claimed their first league title in almost 40 years to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals.
Miami finished in second place (859, -5), while Kent State and Northern Illinois finished tied for third (863, -1). Toledo's Barend Botha claimed individual championship honors for the second consecutive year with a three-day total of 205 (-11).
How It Happened
Behind Deardorff, senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario/Saint Thomas Aquinas/Nevada) and sophomore Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute) tied for 20th with a 222. Junior Zander Gibson (Concord, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin/Rider) and freshman Avery Mahoney (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) rounded out the lineup with a 223 (27-78-73) and a 229 (76-75-78), respectively.
Historical Notes
The youthful Eagles posted the sixth-lowest four-player team scoring average at 293.8. Overall, Eastern Michigan finished in the top-10 at six different tournaments this season, including a fourth-place finish at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 15-16, 2023.
