STANFORD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished 28th overall at the 57th edition of The Goodwin, March 26-28, on the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., as the Eagles, who faced a field featuring 26 teams ranked among the top 100 nationally, completed their second tournament of the week. Eastern was led by Leo Mihaich, who tied for 78th at 7-over 217.
No. 23 Stanford University, the host of the event, won the team title at 17-under 823 with No. 35 University of California Los Angeles taking second at 13-under 827 with No. 21 University of New Mexico placing third at 10-under 830. The Eagles, who shot 41-over 881 (291-302-288), were one of the 26 teams among the top 100 in the field as 160 individuals completed the three-day event on the par-70, 6-742-yard course.
Mihaich (Bell Ville, Argentina/Figuero Alcorta Normal School/Oklahoma Christian) was the top Eastern player as he was 7-over 217 (72-75-70) and used an even-par final round to climb 29 spots in the standings. The 217 strokes ties his season best with the Eagles after he also shot 217 earlier this week at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in Napa, Calif.
Robby Turnbull (Auckland, New Zealand/Selwyn College) tied for 107th at 10-over 220 (73-74-73) while Charlie Box (Leicester, England/Wreake Valley Academy/Hutchinson CC) was tied for 127th at 14-over (72-77-75). Tim Chan (Hong Kong, China/Loretto School/VCU) finished tied for 134th at 15-over 225 (78-76-71) by lowering his score each of the three rounds while Joshua Hess (Schattdorf, Switzerland/Montverde Academy (Fla.)) tied for 149th at 21-over 231 (74-83-74) to round out the Eagles in the field.
