Rookie shares the award after another strong performance helped EMU to second place

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly men's golf awards, Oct. 23, with Eastern Michigan University rookie Vicente Quiroga earning MAC Golfer of the Week honors for the second consecutive tournament after another strong showing pushed him to a top three finish and helped the Eagles to a second-place team placement at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational, Oct. 19-21. Quiroga, who shared the award with Toledo's Brooks Pawlak after both tied for third in the same tournament, led Eastern to a program-record 41-under 823 score in Jonesborough, Tenn.

Quiroga (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Tiquipaya School) tied for third at 14-under 202 (70-68-64) at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational for his second consecutive top three finish after he tied for first place in his last outing, the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 5-6). Quiroga, who started the final round in a tie for 11th, posted 10 birdies and two bogies to shoot a final-round 64 and make his run toward the top of the standings. His 64, the fourth-lowest in program history, was the lowest final-round score in the 26-year history of the Bank of Tennessee Invitational and helped him shoot 202, which tied for the tournament's fifth-best score. Quiroga, ranked No. 244 this week, beat out 11 players ranked ahead of himself nationally, including a trio of top 50 players in No. 13 Erik Tjarnberg and No. 46 Veigar Heidarsson of ETSU and No. 27 Bence Bertenyi of MAC rival Toledo, to help him grab his second top three showing in as many tournaments after he used a final-round and school-record-tying 63 to earn co-medalist honors at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational.

The honor is the second for Quiroga and his second in as many tournaments this fall after his performance at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational. His award brings the program's total to four this year after both Parin Sarasmut (Bangkok, Thailand/Srinakharinwirot) and Arsit Areephun (Chiang Rai, Thailand/Samakkhivittayakhom/Delaware) earned the award Sept. 11 and Sept. 25, respectively. Eastern is no stranger to earning weekly awards from the MAC as the team collected a league-high seven during the 2025-26 season with Box being selected four times while Robby Turnbull (Auckland, New Zealand/Selwyn College) earned two and Joshua Hess (Schattdorf, Switzerland/Montverde Academy (Fla.)) added one.
