UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in 10th place among 14 teams at the Rutherford Intercollegiate Sunday, April 14, on the par-71, 7,171-yard PSU Blue Course. The Eagles posted a final round 300 to finish with a two-day, 54-hole score of 893 (297-296-300).
Penn State captured the title with a score of 858 (293-287-278), marking the ninth-straight year the Nittany Lions have claimed the event. Valparaiso's Caleb VanArragon earned the individual title by one shot with a 210 (74-70-66).
Connecticut finished as the runner up with an 868 followed by Florida Gulf Coast in third with an 880, Valparaiso and Rhode Island tied for fourth at 885.
How It Happened
Senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario/Saint Thomas Aquinas/Nevada) continued his chase for the EMU single-season scoring record with a 220 (69-85-75) to finish in a tie for 15th. Kellett, who held the first-round lead, moved into a tie with Beau Breault (2018-19) with a 71.8 average per round. All told it marked the six top-20 showing of the season for Kellett.
Freshman Avery Mahoney (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) tied for 18th with a final round 71 for a two-day tally of 221 (75-75-71). Senior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) tied for 38th at 225 (77-71-77), while junior Zander Gibson (Concord, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin/Rider) and sophomore Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute) tied for 52nd with a 230.
