Two Eagles Sit in the Top-10 after Day One of Benbow Invite

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) and freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) led the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team to a first-round 327 at the Don Benbow Invitational Monday, March 8. Overall, the Green and White are in fourth-place among six teams on the par-71, 6,021-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Course.
Host Butler University holds the team lead after 18 holes with a 319, while Evansville's Sophia Rohleder holds a three-stroke lead over the field after she fired a 75 in today's opening round.
Loberg put together a round of 79 and is tied for fifth, while Watson is one stroke back in a tie for ninth. Senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio- Anthony Wayne) resides in 15th with an 82. Freshmen Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) and Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) rounded out the lineup with a 85 and a 93, respectively.
Playing as an individual, freshman Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) notched an opening day score of 90.
Teams will wrap up their final round at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 9. Eastern will be paired with Purdue Fort Wayne and Savannah State in the second round.
