Two Eagles Record Top-10 Finishes as EMU Finishes Third at Benbow Invite

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team posted a third-place finish (327-314=641) among six teams at the Don Benbow Invitational Tuesday, March 9, on the par-71, 6,021-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. The Green and White shaved off 13 strokes in the final round of the invitational.
Sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) paced the Eagles for a second-place finish with a career-low for 36 holes with a 152 (79-73), just one stroke behind winner Sophia Rohleder from Evansville (75-76=151). Loberg's 73 in the final round was the lowest score among the 36 student-athletes competing. Additionally, it was Loberg's first career top-five finish in a tournament.
Southern Illinois cruised to the invitational title with a 631 (323-308), finishing nine shots better than Evansville (640). Following EMU was Butler (642), Purdue Fort Wayne (664), and Savannah State University (718), respectively.
Freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) recorded a 159 (80-79) to finish in seventh place, while senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) tied for 12th with a 164 (83-81). Freshman Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) chipped in a 171 (85-86) to go along with a 174 (93-81) from freshman Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio- St. Ursula Academy).
Earning time as an individual was freshman Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai), who finished with a 176 (90-86).
Head Coach Stephanie Jennings and the Eagles will have a 10-day layoff before heading to Gulf Shore, Ala. for The Bama Beach Bash hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham. The three-day invitational will begin Friday, March 19.
