CARLSBAD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team battled throughout and closed its second round at the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships tied for ninth place at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., May 23. The Eagles slipped four spots in the team standings but remained in the hunt to advance as the top 15 in the standings following the third round will continue to play, May 25.
"We are top 10 at the national championship with two rounds of show play," Head Coach Josh Brewer said. "Anything that you dream of as a student-athlete or as a coach is right in front of you. And now it's simple: do you execute? Do you do everything and truthfully embrace the moment and have a little bit of fun with it. Yes, there's a lot of pressure, but at the same time, it is why you play college sports. All of the sudden, there are two days left and you still have a chance to win a national championship. Now, we'll just hope more Eastern fans show up and we put on a good show for them."
Eastern shot 7-over 295 on the day to move to 5-over 581 in the tournament and sit tied for ninth place with No. 23 Arizona State University. No. 1 Stanford University took the lead at 12-under 564 and pushed No. 2 University of Southern California into second at 9-under 567. No. 21 Oklahoma State University (7-under 569) is the only other team under par through two rounds with No. 17 Iowa State University (576) and No. 7 University of Arkansas (576) tied for fourth at even-par.
Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) and Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) led the way for the Eagles as both are tied for 27th overall at even-par 144. Sukterm carded an even-par 72 for the second consecutive day while de Bock was 1-over 73 on her round. Sukterm was one of only 41 players (out of 156 in the field) to shoot even-par or lower on the day with the Eastern duo making up two of only 37 individuals in the field that are at par or better through the first two rounds.
Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), and Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior) all shot 3-over 75 in the second round. Janae Leovao is tied for 46th overall at 2-over 146 while Jasmine Leovao is one stroke behind at 3-over 147, which has her tied for 64th. Tan is tied for 94th overall at 3-over 147.
Team Notes
» Eastern shot 7-over 295 in the second round to slip four places into a tie for ninth with Arizona State but earned the No. 9 position in the rankings after winning the tie breaker (better score by each team's non-counting player). The Eagles need to remain among the top 15 following the third round to make the cut and advance to the fourth and final round.
» The Eagles are the highest non-"Power 4" team in the standings through the second round. No. 11 Pepperdine is currently 14th overall at 9-over 585 while No. 46 Oregon State is tied for 29th at 24-over 600.
» The 295 strokes recorded by the Eagles ranked as the fifth-lowest single-round score by a MAC women's team at the NCAA Championships while breaking the record for the lowest score posted in the second round. The previous mark was 299 by Kent State in 2018.
Individual Notes
» Baiyok Sukterm continued her steady play as she shot even-par 72 for the second consecutive day. Her score was tied for the second-lowest recorded by a MAC player in the second round of the NCAA Championships while sitting tied for 13th among MAC players when including all rounds.
