YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents recognized the EMU Women's Golf team during its Oct. 15 meeting, honoring the program's historic 2026 season and unprecedented run to the NCAA Championships Final Four. The resolution commended the Eagles for achieving the highest finish by a women's team in university history and one of the most remarkable NCAA Championship debuts in recent memory.

"Being recognized by the Board of Regents is a fitting tribute to a team that achieved something unprecedented in EMU athletics history," said EMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This group set a new standard for excellence, earned national respect and inspired our entire university community with its remarkable postseason run. We are grateful to Coach Brewer, Coach Don and our student-athletes for the way they represented Eastern Michigan University throughout this historic season."

In its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships, Eastern advanced to NCAA Match Play and tied for third place nationally after reaching the semifinals. Ranked No. 27 nationally and entering the tournament as the No. 21 seed, the Eagles finished fifth in stroke play before upsetting third-seeded Texas in the national quarterfinals. EMU's championship run ended in the semifinals against top-ranked Stanford, which went on to win the national title.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Josh Brewer, the Eagles assembled one of the most successful seasons in program history. Brewer was named Golfweek's 2026 Women's National Coach of the Year and the Women's Golf Coaches Association East Region Coach of the Year. Assistant Coach Caterina Don also earned national recognition, earning a spot on the inaugural Women's Golf Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year Watch List.

Several student-athletes earned postseason accolades for their outstanding performances throughout the season. Janae Leovao finished the year ranked No. 46 nationally and received WGCA All-America Honorable Mention recognition. Janae Leovao, Jasmine Leovao and Baiyok Sukterm were selected to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team.

Additional honors included Savannah de Bock earning All-MAC Second Team and MAC All-Tournament Team recognition, while Matilde Zocchi was named MAC Freshman of the Year.

The Board's resolution also acknowledged the significant impact of GameAbove's partnership with Eastern. Through investments in facilities, recruiting, student-athlete development, technology, training and competitive opportunities, GameAbove has helped strengthen the EMU golf program and expand opportunities for student-athletes.
