CARLSBAD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team added yet another chapter to its historic ledger of accomplishments this year as the Eagles moved up five spots in the standings following the fourth and final round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, May 25, to not only finish fifth in stroke play, but punch its ticket to match play as one of the top eight teams in the field. Making their first appearance in the national tournament, the Eagles, who entered the event ranked No. 27 nationally, are now three wins away from a national title.

"(I am) just excited," Head Coach Josh Brewer said. "I was calm all day for some reason and just had a weird feeling this morning that it was going to be an extreme and it was the right extreme for the day. I am just so proud of them. What a day of golf! I give the credit to the young ladies who believed in us. They took a chance at a school that had nothing to sell them, and it starts with Savannah de Bock and (assistant coach) Catarina Don. They followed me and helped me recruit everybody. I'm just lucky enough to have them in my life and believe in me as their coach before and help me build something that's starting to turn into a pretty special story. We came out and shot the low round of the day and flying around the national championship, which is super special, so hats off to them. They embraced the day and we have been getting better each day, so we are excited to move into match play and see what we can do."

The Eagles fired a final-round score of 4-under 284 to finish fifth overall at 2-over 1,154, climbing five spots in the standings to advance to its first appearance in match play. Eastern was one of only two teams on the day to break par with No. 1 Stanford University being the other after the Cardinal shot 1-under 287 to finish first at 22-under 1,130 and earn the top seed. No. 2 University of Southern California was second at 9-under 1,143 while No. 7 University of Arkansas and No. 5 University of Texas tied for third at 1-over 1,153. The remaining teams in the top eight included No. 21 Oklahoma State University, who was sixth at 3-over 1,155, No. 10 Duke University, who was seventh at 7-over 1,159, and No. 11 Pepperdine University, who was eighth at 11-over 1,163.

Individually, Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) made a big move on the final day as she finished tied for 12th at 3-under 285 to break the program's 72-hole scoring record by 18 strokes, surpassing the 302 recorded at the 2028 Mid-American Conference Championships by Stephany Fleet. De Bock, who shot 3-under 69 in the fourth round, was joined in the top 15 by Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson), who tied for 14th at 2-under 286 after shot 1-under 71 on the final day, marking her fourth consecutive round at or under par this week.

Local legends and fan favorites Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) and Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) were next for the Eagles as the duo shot 2-under 70 and 3-over 75, respectively. Janae tied for 23rd as she shot 1-over 289 in the tournament while twin sister Jasmine tied for 46th at 7-over 295. Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior) figured into the team scoring as she shot 2-over 74 in the final round to tie for 64th at 11-over 299.

Team Notes
» Eastern shot 4-under 284 to close out the stroke play portion of the tournament and climb five places to finish fifth at 2-over 1,154. The Eagles were one of only two teams on the day to break par in the final round with top-ranked Stanford the other after the Cardinal shot 1-under 287 to lock up the top seed.
» With its finish, Eastern finished ahead of a higher-ranked team 23 times this year with seven wins over the top 10 and three over top five foes. Ranked No. 27, the Eagles' finish in stroke played added No. 3 Florida, No. 10 Duke, No. 11 Pepperdine, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 16 SMU, No. 17 Iowa State, No. 21 Oklahoma State, and No. 23 Arizona State to the list.
» The fifth-place finish for Eastern marked the best showing in MAC history, surpassing the seventh-place finish Kent State produced in 2018, while also breaking the record for a Michigan school after Michigan State finished tied for ninth in 2013. Additionally, the Eagles are only the second NCAA Division I program from the state of Michigan to reach match play.
» The Eagles added more entries to the record book with their play. The 284 strokes tied for the ninth-best in program history, the best in any round of the NCAA Championships by a MAC school, and the second-best by a Michigan school. The score also ranked as the best fourth-round score by a MAC team (291, Kent State, 2010) and the record for the final round for a Michigan school.
» Eastern finished with 1,154 strokes over four rounds and obliterated the program record by 74 strokes in the process. The previous record was 1,228 strokes set in the 2008 MAC Championships, one of only four other 72-hole tournaments the Eagles have played ahead of this year's national tournament. Additionally, the EMU score bettered the MAC record by 30 strokes (1,184, Kent State, 2018) and the score for a Michigan school by 24 (1,178, Michigan State, 2014).
» Eastern is set to compete in match play for the ninth time in program history and the first since the 2020-21 MAC Match Play, Feb. 7-8, in Lakewood, Fla., where the Eagles placed seventh. After taking seventh at the 2014 Hoosier Fall Invitational, the Eagles competed in the MAC Match Play event for seven consecutive years with a pair of runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2016 standing as their best placements.

Individual Notes
» Savannah de Bock used a final-round 69 to shoot 3-under 285 and place tied for 12th to tie for the highest finish in MAC history (Mira Meixner, Kent State, 2006). The round of 69 was the second-best single round in MAC history and the second-best in round four behind Pimnipa Panthong of Kent State, who shot 68 in the fourth round in 2018. The 285 strokes for de Bock broke the MAC record for a 72-hole tournament, bettering the mark by three after Wad Phaewchimplee of Kent State shot 288 in 2014, while sitting second for a player from a Michigan school behind Allyssa Ferrell of Michigan State, who shot 283 in 2014.
» Baiyok Sukterm posted a final-round 1-under 71 to finish the tournament at or under par in each of the rounds played. Her 2-under 286 tied for the third-lowest at the NCAA Championships by a representative of a Michigan school and marked the third consecutive season she has finished at or under par at a national event after shooting 6-under at the 2024 NJCAA DI Championships and even-par at the 2025 NAIA Championships.
» Janae Leovao posted the second-best score of the day for the Eagles as she shot 2-under 70 to finish 1-over 289. A native of nearby Oceanside, Calif., Leovao's 289 strokes tied for the sixth-lowest score by a representative of a Michigan school at the NCAA Championships while her final-round 70 tied for the third-best round-four score in MAC history.
» All five Eagles posted scores that broke the previous 72-hole scoring record at Eastern, which was set at the 2008 MAC Championships by Stephany Fleet when she shot 302. Savannah de Bock (285), Baiyok Sutkerm (286), Janae Leovao (289), Jasmine Leovao (295), and Erina Tan (299) each shot better than the previous mark and posted the first five 72-hole scores under 300 in program history.
