Loberg, Watson Lead EMU at Bama Beach Bash

Olivia Loberg and Anna Watson are tied for 31st-place after day one in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) and freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) led the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team on day one of the Bama Beach Bash, March 19. Loberg and Watson are tied for 31st-place with a six-over 78, as the team posted a 324 on the par-72 Gulf Shores Golf Club.
Central Arkansas holds a slim two-stroke lead over the field with a 298, while Murray State's Raeysha Surendran is atop the individual leaderboard with an even-par 72.
Loberg struggled with a 42 on the back nine before turning herself around at the turn to post a 36 on the front nine. This included a birdie on the 492-yard No. 3 hole layout. Meanwhile, Watson experienced the same success on the front side with a pair of red numbers on No. 3 and No. 4.
Senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio- Anthony Wayne) and freshman Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) notched rounds of 84 to reside in a tie for 69th, while freshman Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) closed the day with an 87.
Playing as an individual, freshman Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) notched the lowest 18-hole round of her young career with an 84.
Teams will return to the course for the second round at 8 a.m. CT Saturday, March 20. Eastern will be paired with Alabama State and North Alabama on day two of three.
