Eagles faced three teams ranked in the top 30 nationally in a competitive three-day event

ATLANTA (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team competed well throughout the week at the 12th East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 26-28, where the Eagles finished third in the single-round stroke play portion of the event before falling in a pair of tightly contests matches at the East Lake Golf Club. The event, which featured four teams that reached match play at the 2026 NCAA Championships, saw No. 3 USC win the stroke play event before No. 20 Arkansas captured the match play title.

How It Happened • Stroke Play
One single round of stroke play led off the event with all four teams sending five players to the course with the top four scores counting toward the team score and the seeding for the match play portion of the event. The Eagles' four scoring players were tightly bunched on the scoreboard with all four within one stroke of one another to help No. 53 EMU shoot 3-under 285 and finish third behind No. 3 USC, who won the event at 8-under 280, and No. 20 Arkansas, who shot 6-under 282. No. 29 Oklahoma State rounded out the four-team field at 2-over 290 to finish fourth.

Individually, a trio of Eagles tied for eighth place in the standings as Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia), Laura Gorgees Baeta (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Ortega y Gassett), and Karen Tsuru (Carlsbad, Calif./San Diego Virtual School/Oregon) each shot 1-under 71 on the day. The finish for Gorgees Baeta marked the first top 10 finish of her collegiate career while Tsuru finished in the top 10 for the third consecutive tournament this month. Constanza Quiroga (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Tiquipaya School/Troy) was one shot off her teammates at Even-par 72 to tie for 11th while Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) shot 6-over 78 to finish 20th.

How It Happened • Match Play vs. Arkansas

The Eagles opened with a tough 3&1 loss by No. 238 Karen Tsuru as she gave No. 13 Sara Brentcheneff a battle before UA took a 1-0 lead. Savannah de Bock, however, leveled the score as the No. 160-ranked Eagle grabbed a 4&3 win over Swetha Sathish. But, the Hogs won the final three matches to claim the team win, starting with No. 167 Baiyok Sukterm falling to No. 7 Maria Jose Marin, 5&4, before Constanza Quiroga pushed No. 279 Ebba Liljeberg to the end before dropping a 1-up decision.
