Eastern looking to build upon victories at season-opening tournament

UNIVERSITY PARK, Wash. (EMUEagles.com) — After capturing both the team and individual title at its season-opening event, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team will travel to scenic Chambers Bay in University Park, Wash., Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 15-16, for the Leadership & Golf Invitational, hosted by both Seattle University and the University of Washington. The two-day, three-round event marks the second consecutive year the Eagles have competed in the event after placing 14th in the team standings and Savannah de Bock tying for eighth.
ON THE COURSE FOR EASTERN
Here are the Eagles that could compete in the 2025 Women's National Golf Invitational:

» The Eagles captured the team title at The Southern (Sept. 8-9), marking their first victory under Josh Brewer and the 30th in program history (since 1996-97). The win also marked the fifth time EMU won its first tournament of the fall season and its 16th all-time fall tournament win.
» At The Southern, Eastern won the team title by 25 strokes with and posted two program-record scores (285 in round one and 283 in round two) with four players in the top 8 individually.
» Janae Leovao shared medalist honors at The Southern, marking her first collegiate victory and the 26th individual title won by a member of the EMU program all-time.
» The first Division I Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll was released Sept. 5 with the Eagles receiving three votes. EMU is the only team in this week's field at The Southern to receive votes in the poll.
» In the coming weeks, a trio of Eagles will play in outside tournaments with both Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao set to compete in the 2025 LPGA Q School Pre-Qualifying event, Sept. 24-26, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., before Savannah de Bock represents Belgium at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championship in Singapore (Oct. 1-4).
» The 2025-26 roster features 11 players, including five returners in Savannah de Bock, Julianna Go, Angelica Holman, Erina Tan, and Mariana Vega are all back for the Eagles this season. The program also added six newcomers, including three transfers and three freshmen.
» Eastern was No. 122 in the final Scoreboard/Clippd rankings of 2024-25 with Savannah de Bock leading the way at No. 175 individually. This year's team has added three transfers that should help that ranking rise as Jasmine Leovao (No. 97) and Janae Leovao (No. 148) both were among the top 150 at Long Beach State while Baiyok Sukterm was the No. 1 player in the NAIA.
» The Eagles were busy over the summer playing in numerous events. One the biggest events was the 2025 European Ladies' Team Championship where Caterina Don and Italy placed seventh and Savannah de Bock and Belgium finished ninth by winning the Flight B competition.
TOURNAMENT INFO: THE FACTS
The 2025 Leadership & Golf Invitational will be played Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 15-16, at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Park, Wash. The two-day tournament on the par-72, 6-137-yard course will see teams tee off each day at 8 a.m. PT (11 a.m. ET) in a shotgun format with two rounds played Sept. 8 and one round Sept. 9. TOURNAMENT INFO: THE FIELD
The 2025 Leadership& Golf Invitational features 16 teams, including 12 teams that competed in the 2024 edition. Along with the Eagles and hosts Seattle and Washington, the returning teams include Cal Poly, Colorado, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Francisco, and UC Davis. The newcomers to the field include Hawaii, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, and San Jose State.
IN THE RANKINGS • TEAMS
Based upon the final 2024-25 rankings released by Scoreboard/Clippd in June, this week's field will feature 13 teams that ranked among the top 125, including two among the top 50 in NCAA Regional competitors San Jose State (No. 45) and Oregon State (No. 49). The remaining ranked teams including eight more in the top 100, including No. 55 UC Davis, No. 61 Washington, No. 66 Colorado, No. 70 LBSU, No. 77 San Francisco, No. 79 Grand Canyon, No. 82 on Louisiana-Monroe, and No. 90 Cal Poly, while the top 125 also include No. 115 San Diego State, No. 119 Seattle, and No. 122 EMU.
LAST TIME: 2024 LEADERSHIP & GOLF
The Eagles shot 42-over 906 to finish 14th at the 2024 Leadership & Golf Invitational, which marked the first tournament for the team under Josh Brewer. Savannah de Bock tied for eighth to pace the Eagles as she shot 2-under 214, which at the time tied for the second-lowest score in EMU history. Second-ranked USC won the event at 5-under 859 while four teams that are in this year's event, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Oregon State, and San Diego State, rounded out the top five teams, respectively. Current Eagles Janae Leovao (third) and Jasmine Leovao (tie-11th) played in the event and helped LBSU to its third-place showing.
TEAM TITLE SECURED
Eastern Michigan captured the win at The Southern by 25 strokes as the Eagles shot 11-over 875 to take the title over Florida Gulf Coast, who was second at 36-over 900. The Eagles, who tied the program record for lowest team round by shooting 285 in the first round before lowering the mark to 283 in the second, posted the second-lowest team score in program history (875), surpassed only by the 871 shot last year at the Gators Invitational (March 7-8, 2025) in Gainesville, Fla. Eastern saw its top four finish among the top eight individually, including Janae Leovao, who tied for first place at Even-par 216 with TK Kongthong of Georgia State. Jasmine Leovao (+1) was third, Baiyok Sukterm (+7) was seventh, and Erina Tan (+8) tied for eighth for the Eagles in their season-opening tournament.
ADDING TO THE TOTALS • TEAM WINS
The Eagles' secured the 30th team victory in program history (since 1996-97) with their victory at The Southern, marking the first win for EMU since Lady Jaguar Invitational, April 16-17, 2022, at Plum Creek GC in Carmel, Ind., and the first fall tournament EMU has won since Oct. 4-5, 2021, when the Eagles won their own Shirley Spork Invitational at Eagle Crest GC in Ypsilanti. Along with the win at The Southern, Eastern has now won five season-opening tournaments with the previous instance coming Sept. 10-11, 2007, with the win at the NIU Brickyard Invitational at Brickyard Crossing GC in Indianapolis, Ind. All told, Josh Brewer, the eighth head coach in program history, became the sixth EMU leader to win at least one tournament.
MORE WINS BREWER-ING
The win for the team marked the first under Josh Brewer, who has now won 17 tournaments in his coaching career after securing 16 during his 12-year tenure at Georgia. The win also marked the first for a Brewer-led team since the Bulldogs won the 2023 NCAA Athens Regional in Athens, Ga., the team's third NCAA regional title.
TWIN WINS
The medalist honors Janae Leovao secured at The Southern marked her first collegiate victory after finishing second in three different events in the three previous seasons with Long Beach State. The win, however, is not the first for a member of the Leovao family as sister Jasmine Leovao won three times with LBSU. Jasmine won the 2023 and 2024 Big West Conference titles before taking medalist honors in 2025 in the LBSU dual with San Diego State. Overall, a Leovao has now won a collegiate event at least once in each of the past four seasons.
ADDING TO THE TOTALS • INDIVIDUAL WINS
Janae Leovao's victory at The Southern marked the 26th individual title won by an Eastern player while making her the 17th different player to add her name to the list. Her victory made it back-to-back medalist honors earned by an EMU player after Angelica Holman won the Women's National Golf Invitational, May 9-11, 2025, in Arizona. Additionally, she is the third player to win a title under Josh Brewer at EMU with Savannah de Bock winning the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25, 2024.
(LPGA Q) SCHOOL IS IN
LPGA Q School opens next week at three sites around the U.S. with both Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao heading to LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 24-26, to play in LPGA Q School Pre-Qualifying. While the total number of advancing qualifiers has not been determined yet, those that make the cut at the three pre-qualifying sites will play in the LPGA Q School Qualifying event, Oct. 15-18, at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla. From there, qualifiers will move to Final Qualifying, Dec. 4-8, at Magnolia Groves GC in Mobile, Ala., with the top 25 finishers earning their LPGA Tour cards for 2026 while all players that complete the Qualifying and/or Final Qualifying events will earn Epson Tour eligibility in 2026.
INTERNATIONAL DUTY
During the first week of October, Savannah de Bock will play for Team Belgium at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships as she and her teammates will compete for the Espirito Santo Trophy, Oct. 1-4, on the Tampines Course at Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore. The tournament, which features four rounds of play with the lowest combined team score earning the trophy, will mark the third time de Bock has competed for Belgium in the event as she tied for 48th in 2022in Guyancourt, France, before tying for 77th in 2023 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
ON THE HORIZON
Eastern will head to the mountains of Colorado to compete in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 24-26, at Red Sky Ranch Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. While the team competes in the three-day event, Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao will step away to compete in the LPGA Q School Pre-Qualifying event at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Sept. 24-26.
