Golf Earns Takes Second Place at Florida State Match Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team saw four of its five players finish among the top 13 individually, including Jasmine Leovao, who was third, as the Eagles earned a second-place finish at the Florida State Match Up, March 20-22, at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. With the finish, the team has placed either first (twice) or second (three times) in five of the eight tournaments Eastern has played this year while six of the seven tournaments saw the Eagles finish in the top four.
Host and No. 18 Florida State University captured the team title by shooting 4-under 860 with the No. 28 Eagles taking second at 4-over 868 (290-290-288). The University of Tulsa was third at 12-over 876 with the University of Illinois (20-over 884) and the No. 35 University of Virginia (25-over 889) rounding out the top five teams in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) finished third at 3-under 213 (69-71-73) to post her fifth top 10 finish of the season and lead the charge for the team. It marked her third top three finish of the season as well. She was joined in the top 10 by Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia), who tied for ninth at Even-par 216 (71-71-74) to record her fourth top 10 finish this season.
Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) placed 13th overall at 3-over 219 (75-75-69) while Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) was just behind her as her 4-over 220 (75-73-72) earned her a tie for 14th. Matilde Zocchi (Turin, Italy/Liceo Vittoria) tied for 63rd at 25-over 241 (83-80-78) to round out the Eagles in the tournament.

» Jasmine Leovao finished at 3-under 213 to place third overall as she posted a score that tied for the ninth-best in program history and tied her second-best score of the season after shooting the same at the Alice & John Wallace Invitational (Feb. 14-16). The only tournament she shot better was the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 20-22) where she shot 210.

Eastern won The Southern (Sept. 8-9) and the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16) to open the season and has added runner-up showings at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-7) and the Alice & John Wallace Invitational (Feb. 14-16) ahead of the Florida State Match Up.
» Eastern finished with 868 strokes, the fourth-lowest score in program history. The Eagles shot 290 in the first two rounds, which tied for the 18th-best single-round score in program history, while the 288 recorded in round three ranked 14th.
