REVIEW: GAMEABOVE INVITE
Eastern tied for fourth place at the inaugural GameAbove Golf Invitational held March 9-10 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., as the Eagles battled a strong field on the links-style course in the Los Angeles area. The No. 30 Eagles, who co-hosted the event with No. 2 USC on the par-72, 6,564-yard course, played well against a field of 11 teams that featured three of the top four teams in the national rankings and eight members of the top 50.

USC captured the team title at 22-under 842 (283-280-279), taking the top spot on its home course by 12 strokes over No. 4 Texas A&M, who was second at 10-under 854 (291-286-277). The junior, ranked No. 135 collegiately and No. 264 in WAGR, saw her fourth top 20 finish of the season place her ahead of nine players ranked higher on the world chart and eight on the collegiate ledger. Similarly, Baiyok Sukterm tied for 21st at 6-over 222 (72-71-79) as the No. 145 player in college and No. 165 on WAGR defeated eight players higher ranked in the world and seven on the collegiate chart.

NOTING: WALLACE INVITATIONAL
» The 877 strokes Eastern recorded ranked as the sixth-best 54-hole team score in program history. It also marked the sixth time in six events this season the Eagles have posted a score that ranked in the program's all-time top seven.
» Eastern shot 285 in the second round to tie for the sixth-lowest single-round score in program history for the third time this season after also shooting 285 in the opening round of The Southern (Sept. 8) and the second round of the Alice & John Wallace Invitational (Feb. 15).
» The Eagles' score of 292 in the final round tied for the 27th-best single-round score in program history. To date, there have been 38 rounds of 292 or lower recorded in program history with 23 of those rounds (60.5 percent) coming in the past two seasons under Josh Brewer.
» Eastern, ranked No. 30 in the March 4 Scoreboard/Clippd rankings, defeated No. 11 UCLA for the second consecutive tournament after finishing second at the Alice & John Wallace Invitational (Feb. 14-16) with the Bruins taking third. The Eagles also tied with two teams ranked ahead of them in the GameAbove Golf Invitational as they shared fourth with No. 22 Arizona and No. 26 SMU.
» With its placement at the GameAbove Golf Invitational, Eastern has defeated five teams ranked higher than it in tournaments this year. The Eagles were receiving votes in the coaches poll (prior to the release of the Scoreboard/Clippd rankings) and took second place at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-7) with No. 25 Baylor (fourth) and No. 12 Oklahoma State (fifth) finishing behind EMU. At the Alice & John Wallace Invitational (Feb. 14-16), the No. 33 Eagles took second to finish ahead of No. 11 UCLA (third) and No. 10 Vanderbilt (fifth).

ANOTHER AWARD
Janae Leovao was named the MAC Golfer of the Week, March 13, after another leading the Eagles at the inaugural GameAbove Invitational as she tied for 12th at 1-over 217 (77-70-70), climbing four spots in the final round for her fourth top 12 finish of the year. Leovao, then ranked No. 68 in the collegiate ranks and No. 204 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), placed ahead of 11 players ranked higher on the world lists and seven on the collegiate charts while posting the 24th-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Her finish helped the No. 30 Eagles finish in a tie for fourth place with No. 22 Arizona and No. 26 SMU while defeating No. 11 UCLA for the second consecutive tournament. The only teams to finish ahead of EMU were three of the top four teams in the nation: No. 2 USC, No. 3 Oregon, and No. 4 Texas A&M.

A TWIN WITH A TRIPLE
The weekly award earned by Janae Leovao (March 13) was the third captured by Leovao this season after she was honored Sept. 19 before sharing the award with her twin sister, Jasmine Leovao, Oct. 24. She is the third different Eastern player to earn MAC Golfer of the Week three times in a single season (four total times it has happened) and the first since the 2012-13 season when Sarah Johnson earned three accolades (Nov. 1, 2012, March 7, 2013, and April 18, 2013). Stephany Fleet was the first member of the program to earn three weekly MAC awards in a single season and accomplished the feat in two different seasons, including the 2006-07 (Sept. 27, 2006, Oct. 4, 2006, and March 28, 2007) and 2008-09 (Sept. 18, 2008, Feb. 11, 2009, and April 1, 2009) seasons.

FEELING HONORED
With her award earned March 13, Janae Leovao brought the program's total to six MAC Golfer of the Week awards earned this season. Janae Leovao has earned the award three times, including Sept. 19, following her medalist finish at the Leadership & Golf Invitational before adding her second accolade in February when she shared it with her sister. Jasmine Leovao was first honored Oct. 24 after she placed second at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawai'i to help the Eagles to fourth place as a team. Baiyok Sukterm has been honored once this year as she garnered the award Oct. 10 following her tie for second at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate as she helped Eastern to a second-place finish at Prairie Dunes.

LPGA COLLEGIATE ADVANCEMENT PATHWAY
The LPGA has instituted its Collegiate Advancement Pathway program, which will be used to help the top 10 collegiate players on the list earn priority status on the Epson Tour for the remainder of the 2026 season and all of the 2027 season while also adding in exemptions into the different rounds of the 2026 LPGA Q-Series. As of March 6, Janae Leovao is ranked No. 29 (716.9154 points) while Jasmine Leovao is just behind her at No. 33 (689.5687).

MAKING REVISIONS
Under Josh Brewer (Fall 2024 through the Alice & John Wallace Invitational), the team has taken its talons to the record book on numerous occasions. In fact, just in the five events played during the Fall 2025 season, the Eagles broke the team single low round four times, the team score once, and added nine total marks to those two areas. Eastern picked up where it left off as the Eagles added one tournament and two rounds to the ledger as well. For the lowest single-round team score, the record ahead of the 2024-25 season was 286, shot Sept. 22, 2015, at the Cardinal Classic and was broken five times since, including:
» 285 at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic (third round)(Sept. 25, 2024)

» 282 at the Leadership & Golf Invitational (first round)(Sept. 15, 2025)

MORE LOW ROUNDS
Eastern has recorded 26 rounds of team scoring at 291 or lower in program history with 12 of those coming this season, equating to 11-of-17 rounds played. In fact, ahead of the start of the 2024-25 season, only eight such rounds had been recorded.

» 289 at Rainbow Wahine Invitational (round 1)(Oct. 20, 2025)
» 291 at Leadership & Golf Invitational (round 3)(Sept. 16, 2025)

FOR THREE?
Janae Leovao was the medalist at The Southern and the Leadership & Golf Invitational events earlier this year. Leovao is on the cusp of more history with the Eagles as another victory this season would make her the first player in program history to record three wins in the same season while becoming only the fourth Eagle to win three titles in a career in Ypsilanti. Stephanie Smoot was the first to three wins with titles in 1998, 1999, and 2000 before Catherine Fortin added wins in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Stephany Fleet was the most recent winner of three titles as she won once in 2006-07 before taking two in the 2007-08 season.

TAKING IT BACK(-2-BACK)
The win in Washington was the 30th all-time for the Eagles and, coupled with the win at The Southern (Sept. 8-9) gave the Eagles back-to-back titles for the fifth time in program history and the first time since the 2021-22 season when they won the Golden Grizzly Invitational in Rochester, Mich. (Sept. 26-27, 2021) and the Shirley Spork Invitational at home (Oct. 4-5, 2021). Additionally, Eastern won back-to-back 54-hole tournaments for just the second time with the only other instance coming during the 2019-20 season. That year, the Eagles won titles at the Shirley Spork Invitational at home (Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2019) and the MAC Fall Preview in Silver Lakes, Ohio (Oct. 7-8, 2019).

TWIN WINS
The medalist honors Janae Leovao secured at The Southern marked her first collegiate victory after previously finishing second in three different events in the three previous seasons with Long Beach State. The win, however, is not the first for a member of the Leovao family as sister Jasmine Leovao won three times with LBSU. Jasmine won the 2023 and 2024 Big West Conference titles before taking medalist honors in 2025 in the LBSU dual with San Diego State. Overall, a Leovao has now won a collegiate event at least once in each of the past four seasons.

ADDING TO THE TOTALS • INDIVIDUAL WINS
Janae Leovao's victory at The Southern marked the 26th individual title won by an Eastern player while making her the 17th different player to add her name to the list. Her victory made it back-to-back medalist honors earned by an EMU player after Angelica Holman won the Women's National Golf Invitational, May 9-11, 2025, in Arizona. Additionally, she is the third player to win a title under Josh Brewer at EMU with Savannah de Bock winning the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25, 2024.

MORE WINS BREWER-ING
Eastern Michigan has now won twice under Josh Brewer, who has now won 18 tournaments in his coaching career after securing 16 during his 12-year tenure at Georgia. The wins also marked the first for a Brewer-led team since the Bulldogs won the 2023 NCAA Athens Regional in Athens, Ga., the team's third NCAA regional title.

TWINNING
Janae Leovao shot 7-under 209 to win the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16) that included rounds of 68 and 69 to close out the win. She won her second consecutive tournament after finishing no higher than second place four times in her prior 35 tournaments. Her win made her the seventh different EMU player to record multiple wins in a career and the first to win multiple times in the same season since Stephany Fleet won twice in 2007-08. She also became the first EMU player to win back-to-back titles in program history and, coupled with teammate Angelica Holman's win at the Women's National Golf Invitational that closed out the 2024-25 season, EMU has now won three consecutive individual tournament titles for the first time in program history.

ON THE HORIZON
Eastern Michigan's next event sees the Eagles returning to California where they will compete in the Silicon Valley Showcase, March 30-31, at Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, Calif.
