WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team will compete in the Boilermaker Spring Classic Sunday-Monday, April 6-7, in West Lafayette, Ind., the final regular season event for the program before heading into postseason play. The two-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Purdue University, will feature 16 teams playing on the par-72, 6,211-yard Ackerman-Allen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

"We look forward to ending our spring season close to home," Head Coach Josh Brewer said. "It is an important event as we are playing in conditions that we could see at the MAC Championship. It is also a chance to compete and continue to build on our confidence."
ON THE COURSE FOR EASTERN
Here are the Eagles that will compete in the Boilermaker Spring Classic:
» Mariana Vega (Fr.) • 75.2 avg. • Shot career-best 217 at Gators Invite (3/7-8) to tie for 21st overall
» Savannah de Bock (So.) • 72.4 avg. • 3x MAC Golfer of the Week; finished top 20 in 9 tournaments this year
» Riley Kim (So.) • 77.1 avg. • MAC Golfer of the Week (3/7); finished career-best 4th at River Landing (3/4-5)
» Erina Tan (Fr.) • 76.1 avg. • Finished T-6th in her most recent tournament (River Landing, March 4-5)
» Julianna Go (So.) • 78.4 avg. • Posted a season-best T-29th at the River Landing Classic (March 4-5)

» The team's current best four-player season scoring average is 301.2 (31 rounds/9,336 strokes), the lowest in program history. The best full-season mark is 304.0 (27/8,209) by the 2015-16 squad.
» Individually, two Eagles rank in the program's top 10 for scoring average (minimum 10 rounds played) with Savannah de Bock ranked first (72.4) and Mariana Vega fifth (75.2).
» Eastern enters the week ranked No. 125 in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings, the second-highest the team has climbed this year, surpassed only by the No. 124 ranking achieved March 12. The Eagles never climbed higher than No. 212 all of last season.
» Earlier this week, EMU Assistant Coach Caterina Don competed in her third Augusta National Women's Amateur in Augusta, Ga., firing a two-round score of 148 (75-73). Although she missed the cut to Saturday's final round, she finished tied for 50th in her first tournament in nearly one year while playing against 71 of the top ranked amateurs in the world.
» Savannah de Bock captured medalist honors at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25, as she carded a 12-under, 204 to win by three strokes. It marked her first collegiate victory and the first for Eastern in two years.
» Savannah de Bock finished 12-of-15 rounds played in the fall under par, which was most of any player in the nation among all collegiate divisions. Two players tied for second at 10.
» Savannah de Bock has been named to the 2024 ANNIKA Award Fall Watch List. One of 25 players selected nationally, de Bock is on the short list for the award that is considered the Heisman of women's collegiate golf.
» The current roster is comprised of seven players, six of whom are new to the program this year. Riley Kim is the lone returning player and is joined by two transfers and three freshmen.
» The coaching staff is also new in 2024 as Josh Brewer takes over in Ypsilanti following 12 years at Georgia. Brewer has added two assistants to his staff, including Caterina Don, who was one of his top players at Georgia, and Anna Watson, a four-year member of the Eastern program, both of whom graduated in 2024.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
The Boilermaker Spring Classic features 16 teams competing on the par-72, 6,211-yard Ackerman-Allen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. The two-day event will feature competitors from four members of the Mid-American Conference, including EMU, Akron, Northern Illinois, and Toledo, with the remainder of the field including the following: Bradly, Butler, Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit Mercy, Illinois, Illinois State, Minnesota, Princeton, host Purdue, South Alabama, and Tennessee Tech.
IN THE RANKINGS · TEAMS
Of the 16 teams in the event, nine are ranked in the top 125 of the April 2 Scoreboard/Clippd national rankings. No. 38 Purdue leads the way as the only top 50 team in the field with six others ranked in the top 100, including No. 52 Illinois, No. 61 Princeton, No. 67 Denver, No. 68 Minnesota, No. 77 Illinois State, and No. 79 South Alabama. The remaining two teams in the top 125 include No. 124 Cincinnati and No. 125 Eastern Michigan.
IN THE RANKINGS · INDIVIDUAL
Eight players in the field are nationally ranked in the top 150 according to the April 2 release, including two top 50 players in No. 42 Isabella McCauley (Minnesota) and No. 47 Natasha Kiel (Purdue) with No. 52 Catherine Rao (Princeton) just outside the top 50. Two others are included in the top 125, including No. 114 Olivia Duan (Princeton) and No. 127 Momo Sugiyama (Purdue) while No. 133 Savannah de Bock (EMU) and No. 148 Emma Bryant (Denver) round out the top 125-ranked competitors.
AGAINST THE BEST
Earlier this week, Caterina Don competed in her third Augusta National Women's Amateur and finished tied for 50th against some of the top amateurs in the world after not having played in a tournament in nearly one year (11 months). The EMU assistant coach, with Head Coach Josh Brewer serving as her caddie, shot a two-round score of 148 (75-73), but missed the cut to Saturday's final round.
BETTER USE A PENCIL
Ahead of the season, the program finished 16 tournaments (54-holes) scoring 899 or better. Through the Gators Invitational (March 7-8), the Eagles have added five marks that list, including the No. 1 score two different times. First, the Eagles shot 879 (300-290-289) at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 21-23) to take down the former school record of 880 (301-293-286) shot Sept. 21-22, 2015, at the Cardinal Classic. At the Gators Invitational, EMU shot 871 (289-292-290) to lower the record by eight strokes while finishing sixth in the event. Here are the scores added this year:

LOW ROUNDS ABOUND
Similar to overall scoring, the single-round scores turned in by the Eagles this year have rewritten the record books. Entering the season, the program had produced a round of 294 or better 30 times. Through the Longhorn Invitational (March 17-18), the Eagles have posted 10 additions to the ledger, including all three rounds played in Florida as they shot 289 in round one (tie-fourth), 292 in round two (tie-14th), and 290 in the final round (tie-sixth). DE BOCK REWRITING THE BOOKS
Ahead of the season, only three Eastern Michigan players had recorded a 54-hole tournament score of 215 or lower with Anna Watson recording a then-school-record 211 at the Shirley Spork Invitational (Oct. 2-3, 2023) to lower the mark previously held by Catherine Fortin, who shot 2214 at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 8-9, 2017. Through eight 54-hole tournaments played this season (through the Longhorn Invitational, March 17-18), Savannah de Bock has recorded six scores of 214 or lower, including four that stand as school records.

ON THE HORIZON
The postseason begins for the Eagles, April 20-22, when Eastern ventures to Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind., for the 2025 MAC Championships. The 10-team field, which includes Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan, will compete over three days with the winning team earning an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Regional Championships.
