Eagles finished second at the River Landing Classic in Wallace, N.C.

WALLACE, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Riley Kim finished fourth overall, three other Eagles placed among the top 10, and several historic marks were recorded as the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in second place at the River Landing Classic, March 4. The 54-hole event, hosted by the University of North Carolina Wilmington, was played on the par-72, 6,118-yard River Course at River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C., with the host Seahawks winning the event as the Eagles tied for second with Princeton University.

In the team standings, the Seahawks won the title at 14-over 878 (297-284-297) while the Eagles and Tigers (301-285-295) scored runner-up honors. Charleston Southern University (307-302-309) and Radford University (306-307-305) tied for fourth at 54-over 918 to round out the top five.

Individually, Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) led the way for the Eagles as she finished fourth at 2-over 218 (73-72-73) and tied for the 17th-best score in program history while shooting under 220 for the first time in her career. Bettering her previous best by four strokes, Kim earned her first top five finish and her first top 10 showing, improving on her career-best T-11th at the Shirley Spork Invitational (Oct. 2-3, 2023) in Ypsilanti.

Along with Kim, Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior), Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish), and Angelica Holman (Fort Pierce, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy/Daytona State/Georgia) each placed among the top 10 in the individual standings as well, finishing tied for sixth, eighth, and tied for 10th, respectively. Tan, in only her second collegiate 54-hole event, improved her best score by 14 strokes as she shot 4-over 220 (73-75-72) to earn her first collegiate top 10 while Vega followed with her first top 10 showing by shooing 5-over 221 (74-71-76), which stands as her third-lowest collegiate score. Holman, playing in just her second 54-hole event as an NCAA Division I player, lowered her previous score by 21 strokes as she shot 7-over 223 (74-74-75) to record her first top 10 finish in Division I and her seventh as a collegiate competitor.

Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) and Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/St. Jude Catholic School/King) also competed, tying for 16th and 29th, respectively. De Bock carded a 9-over 225 (75-75-75) while Go, playing as an individual, finished at 23-over 239 (73-78-88).

Player Notes
» Riley Kim's fourth-place finish marked the first time she has placed in the top five in an event at EMU. Her 218 strokes, which tied for the 17th-best score in EMU history, marked the first time in her career she has finished with a score under 220 and is a four-stroke improvement over her previous best of 222 at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 21-23, 2024).
» Erin Tan shot 220 and lowered her best collegiate 54-hole score by 14 strokes after shooting 234 at the Daniel Island Invitational last week (Feb. 24-25). Her sixth-place tie marked her first collegiate top 10 finish and improved on her previous best of T-15th at the Match in the Desert, Jan. 27.
» Mariana Vega finished eighth overall to mark her first collegiate top 10 finish as she shot 221. The 221 marks her third-lowest collegiate score after shooting back-to-back 219 at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 21-23) and Hurricane Invitational (Oct. 28-29).
» Angelica Holman tied for 10th place for her first top 10 finish as an NCAA Division I player and the seventh time in her collegiate career. The 223 she shot improved her 54-hole low score with EMU by 21 strokes after shooting 244 at the Daniel Island Invitational (Feb. 24-25). The 223 also stands as her fourth-lowest collegiate 54-hole score.

Team Notes
» The Eagles' 881 strokes ranked as the third-lowest 54-hole team score in program history, trailing only the 879 recorded this year at Rainbow Wahine Invitational (Oct. 21-23, 2024) and the previous school-record 880 at the Cardinal Classic (Sept. 21-22, 2015).
» The team's round two score of 292 tied for the 12th-best in program history while the round one 294 ranked tied for 31st.
» The 881 strokes recorded marked only the third time in program history the Eagles have shot 883 or less in a 54-hole event and only the 11th time the team has finished with 894 or lower. EMU has carded three tournaments of 894 or less three times this year, including identical 893 scores at the GolfWeek Red Sky Classic (Sept. 23-25) and the Hurricane Invitational (Oct. 28-29).
