Eagles facing Loyola Chicago Sunday, Sept. 15
VALPARAISO, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – After 10 days off from competition, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Valparaiso University, Thursday, Sept. 12, at Brown Field, despite the Eagles outshooting the Beacons, 11-8.
How It Happened
Despite a pair of chances for the Eagles in the first 30 minutes, Valparaiso netted the match's first goal at the 32:12 mark via penalty kick.
Eastern had two great chances late in the match with the first coming exactly 18 minutes left to play but junior Lily Spotak's (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) 18-yard strike sailed just over the crossbar before redshirt sophomore Sophia Baumann (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) had a shot stopped from five yards out with just 43 seconds remaining.
Eastern Michigan led in shots by an 11-8 margin and led in corners by a 6-1 margin.

» Eastern moved to 4-2-0 on the year while Valparaiso moved to 4-3-0.
» Redshirt sophomore Scarlett Thomas (Sterling Heights, Mich./Utica Academy/Missouri) played all 90 minutes for her third-straight match.
» Junior Mary Grimes (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Central) played 90 minutes in her first start of the season.
