Women's Golf Closes Out Regular Season at Colonel Classic

RICHMOND, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) —
For the first time since 2009, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team travels to the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky University at Gibson Bay Golf Course. Play begins Monday, April 1, and concludes Tuesday, April 2, with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts each day.
 
The 15-team field consists of Ball State, Bellarmine, Belmont, Bradley, Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Illinois State, IUPUI, Morehead State, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan.
 
The teams will compete on the par-72, 6,108-yard Gibson Bay Golf Course.
 
Freshman Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) will lead the lineup for the Eagles. Junior Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario/Tommy Douglas Secondary School), freshman Gabriella Tapp (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon), senior Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich./Livonia Franklin), and junior Grace Halcrow (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Bill Crothers Secondary/Simon Fraser/Glenville State) round out the rotation for Head Coach Stephanie Jennings. Playing as an individual will be senior Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy).

Seniors Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) and Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) will sit out the event in preparation for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Championship, April 21-23, at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio.

EMU last participated in the event back in 2009. That season, Stephany Fleet came up short in a playoff against Toledo's Georgina Hunt to take second. EMU shot a 310 in the final round to finish in third place with a three-round total of 923 (314-299-310). The Rockets of Toledo won the 18-team invitational, carding a 295 on the final day to win by seven shots with a 54 hole total of 912 (306-311-295).
