Sukterm won the title at the Silicon Valley Showcase for her first NCAA Division I victory
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Baiyok Sukterm has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced April 3 following the Eastern Michigan University junior capturing medalist honors at the Silicon Valley Showcase, March 30-31, in Millbrae, Calif. Sukterm, who won her seventh tournament in the college ranks and her first as an NCAA Division I student-athlete, has been honored by the MAC for the second time this year while earning the eighth award for the team in 2025-26.
Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) led the tournament from start to finish as she jumped out to a five-stroke lead following back-to-back rounds of 68 before closing in 74 to shoot 3-over 210 and win the title by one stroke. The win is Sukterm's first as a member of the program and marked the third different level of competition she has won after securing six titles with Barton Community College (NJCAA) in 2023-24 and six more with Lindsey Wilson University (NAIA) last year. The 18th different EMU player to secure medalist honors and the 28th crown won, Sukterm, ranked No. 155 ahead of the event, posted the fifth-lowest score in program history while the 68 she shot in the opening two rounds tied for the ninth-best in EMU history. She helped EMU to its third title this season, which tied for the second-highest total in a single season in program history and sits one behind the four titles won by the 2007-08 squad. Additionally, she helped Eastern post a double win (team and individual) for the 12th time in program history and the third time this year after Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) won the first two tournaments in September.
With her award, Eastern has seen three players garner MAC Golfer of the Week accolades this year with Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) each earning three previously. Janae Leovao was honored Sept. 19 and March 13 while also sharing the Feb. 20 award with her sister, who was also honored Oct. 24 and March 27. Sukterm earned her first honor Oct. 10 after tying for second at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate for her then-best finish as an NCAA Division I player. Overall, the program has seen 19 players garner 49 awards since the start of the 2000-01 season.
Historically, the eight awards are the most in a single season in program history, three more than the five accumulated four times previously, including the 2006-07, 2008-09, 2011-12, and 2012-13 seasons. Sukterm's second award gave the 2025-26 team another record as Eastern had never had a season with three players earning multiple weekly awards from the MAC. To reach that historical mark, Janae Leovao and Jasmine Leovao became the fourth and fifth Eagles, respectively, to earn three awards in a single season (fifth and sixth times, respectively) and the first since Sarah Johnson in the 2012-13 season.
The Eagles have concluded their regular season schedule and have turned their attention toward the postseason, which gets underway with the Mid-American Conference Championships that will be played April 26-28 at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Eastern is seeking its first MAC title in program history and, with it, an automatic berth into the NCAA Regional Tournaments.
