Women's Golf Takes Second at Silverado Showdown

Eastern fired a school-record 15-under 849 as it defeated No. 5 Oregon among others

NAPA, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team went low at the Chevron Silverado Showdown, April 6-8, on the par-72, 6,146-yard Silverado Country Club North Course in Napa, Calif., as the Eagles lowered the program's 54-hole record by 10 strokes to finish second overall in a field that featured eight teams in ranked in the national top 50. The 27th-ranked Eagles saw three players finish among the top 10 individually with Baiyok Sukterm taking fourth, Janae Leovao fifth, and Jasmine Leovao tied for ninth.
As a team, Eastern shot 15-under 849 (284-280-285) to break the previous record of 859 it posted in the second tournament of the season at the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16, 2025) and marked the fourth time the 54-hole record has been broken under Head Coach Josh Brewer, who took over the program ahead of the 2024-25 season. The Eagles, who have finished either first or second in 7-of-10 tournaments this season, were defeated only by No. 2 University of Southern California's 37-under 827 as the Eagles finished second in the 16-team field and defeated No. 5 University of Oregon, who was third at 1-over 865. The finish marked the highest ranked team any current Eastern women's team has defeated in any sport and the second-highest behind the baseball program's 7-6 win at then-No. 4 Clemson University, Feb. 18, 2011.
Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson), who won the Silicon Valley Showcase (March 30-31) last week in Millbrae, Calif., continued her strong run of play as she finished fourth overall at 8-under 208 (71-69-68) for her fourth finish in the top five this season. Sukterm, who defeated three players ranked higher than her in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), posted the third-lowest score in program history and marked just the fifth time an Eastern player has shot 209 or better in a tournament. She also recorded two rounds in the 60s, marking back-to-back tournaments she has accomplished the feat after firing consecutive rounds of 68 at the Silicon event.
Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) finished fifth in the standings at 7-under 209 to tie for the fourth-best score in program history and equal her best of the season after shooting the same to win the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16). She shot 67 in the second round for the third-lowest single round score in program history to help her to back-to-back top five finishes after she tied for fourth at the Silicon Valley Showcase. Ranked No. 180 internationally, she defeated seven players ranked ahead of her on the world ledger.
Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) also was a top 10 finisher as she tied for ninth at 3-under 213, the 12th-best score in program history. She opened the tournament with a round of 69 for her seventh round under 70 this season to help her grab her sixth top 10 finish as she joined her sister in placing ahead of seven players ranked higher than her (No. 182) on the WAGR list.
Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) finished tied for 27th at 4-over 220 (73-73-74) while Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) rounded out the Eagles in the field as she shot 17-over 233 to tie for 75th.

» The 280 shot in the second round is the second-best score in program history behind the 279 recorded in the opening round last week at the Silicon Valley Showcase (March 30-31) while the 284 in round one tied for the seventh-best and the 285 final round score tied for ninth. The three rounds at the Chevron Silverado Showdown marked the 27th, 28th, and 29th times Eastern has recorded a round of 290 or lower with a Josh Brewer-led team recording the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th rounds in program history.
» Eastern finished second in the tournament to mark its seventh top two showing this season in 10 events after winning three titles and taking runner-up four times. The Eagles also have finished in the top four in 9-of-10 tournaments.
» The Eagles, the No. 27 team in the April 8 Scoreboard/Clippd rankings, defeated 14 other teams in the tournament, including No. 5 Oregon. The Ducks are the highest ranked opponent a current Eastern women's team has defeated across and the second-highest among all current teams behind baseball's win 7-6 at No. 4 Clemson, Feb. 18, 2011.
