AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team shot an opening-round 281 with three of its players among the top 10 of the standings, including Savannah de Bock, who is tied for third, at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships, April 26, on the Fazio Course at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The Eagles, who are second in the team race, have four players in the top 14 of the standings with 36 holes to be played over the next two days.

The Eagles shot 1-over 281 to sit three strokes behind 26-time defending champion Kent State University, who opened with a 2-under 278. The top five of the team standings were rounded out by Bowling Green State University in third at 4-over 284 and both Ball State University and Western Michigan University tied for fourth at 10-over 290 on the par-70, 6,1050-yard course.

Individually, de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) is tied for third at 2-under 68, just one stroke back of No. 24 Veronika Kedronova (Kent State) and Sammie Dolce (BGSU), who she will be paired with in round two. De Bock tallied five birdies on the front nine and added one more on the back where she also recorded two bogies and one double bogey. All told, her 68 is the lowest recorded in the MAC event by an Eastern player in program history, surpassing the 69 recorded by Stephany Fleet in 2008, while tying for the 10th-lowest round in any event.

Both Janae Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) and Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) also ranked among the top 10 individuals as Leovao's 70 tied her for seventh place with two other players while Sukterm's opening-round 71 tied her for 10th with three others. Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) was one stroke out of the top 10 as her 72 has her tied for 14th while Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior) shot 75 and sits tied for 26th.

Team Notes
» Eastern carded an opening-round score of 281, which tied for the third-lowest score in program history. The Eagles shot the same score earlier this season in the third round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Oct. 22, 2025.
» The 281 strokes also ranked as the lowest single-round score at the MAC Championships by an Eastern team ever, surpassing the 2016 team's 290, an improvement of nine strokes.
» The Eagles made a massive improvement over their opening round score from last year's MAC Championships where they opened at 301, a 20-stroke difference.

Individual Notes
» Savannah de Bock recorded her third round in the 60s this season with her opening-round 68, which stands as the lowest round in program history at the MAC Championships, surpassing the 69 Stephany Fleet recorded in 2008. Only the second round in the 60s ever shot by an Eagle at the conference event, de Bock's score also tied for the 10th-lowest in any event in program history.
» Janae Leovao shot an opening-round 70, which tied for the third-lowest round in program history at the MAC event. It also marked her 16th round at or under par this year.
» Baiyok Sukterm shot 71 in her first round, which tied for the sixth-lowest in program history at the MAC Championships.
» The rounds recorded by Savannah de Bock (68), Janae Leovao (70), Baiyok Sukterm (71), and Jasmine Leovao (72) tied or bettered the previous lowest opening-round score in program history in the MAC Championships. The record was 72 and recorded by Sarah Johnson in 2011, the same year she won the only MAC title in program history.
