MOBILE, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team treks south to close out the month of March, as the team participates in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, March 24-26. Previously known as the Craft Farms Intercollegiate, the 14-team tournament will be played at the par 71, 7,158 Robert Trent Jones' Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
The three-day tournament will feature 18 holes each day, with rounds on Sunday and Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT off both holes No. 1 and No. 10. Tuesday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Joining EMU and South Alabama at the event will be Dayton, DePaul, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Loyola (Md.), Oral Roberts, Texas State, UCF, Valparaiso, and Western Kentucky.
Situated in the southern tip of the state near Mobile Bay, the Falls course at Magnolia Grove underwent an extensive renovation in 2010. The topography at Magnolia Grove features creeks, marshland, and lakes with each of the 54 holes carved through indigenous hardwood and pine. The renovations have made the courses more "player friendly" while still keeping the integrity of Robert Trent Jones' original design. Magnolia Grove was recently named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses" by Golf World Magazine readers. The Crossings and Falls courses are also listed in Golf Digest's "Places to Play" as two of the nation's great value courses and as "America's Top 50 Affordable Courses." The site hosted an LPGA event for many years, including the Tournament of Champions from 1999-2003.
