SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) notched a final round 75 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Tuesday, March 19, to claim third place with a 227 (78-74-75). It is the second time this season Watson has finished a tournament in third, previously doing so at the Shirley Spork Invitational, Oct. 2-3, 2023. Overall, it marked the fifth top-five showing of her career in 35 all-time tournaments played.
Watson provided the highest finish for any competitor not playing for the host school, as Tennessee Tech's Chloe Griffith 220 (71-76-73) won the event with teammate Ainsley Simms taking runner-up honors with a 225 (78-73-74).
Bowling Green won the event with a 919 (307-306-306) on the par 71, 5,817-yard Highlands Course at Sevierville Golf Club, as Tennessee Tech (931), Lincoln Memorial (941), EMU (957), and Christin Brothers (970) rounded out the top-five places.
How It Happened
Behind Watson, freshman Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) continued to play well, as she tied for 11th with a 235 (73-84-78). Senior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand-The Regent's International School) improved round over round to tie for 32nd with a 248 (85-83-80). Freshman Gabriella Tapp (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) and Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) rounded out the scoring, with a 250 (85-84-81) and a 253 (87-81-85), respectively.
Playing as an individual, senior Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich./Livonia Franklin) recorded a season-best finish in a tie for 242 (81-85-76).
