Eastern Posts Lowest Round in Finale of the Ross Collegiate

EMU shot up six positions following a six-under 282 Tuesday

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in the lowest team score of Tuesday's third round to shoot up six positions to finish in sixth place in a challenging field at the Ross Collegiate Classic. Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's squad notched a six-under 282 in the final round, two strokes better than the next closest score of 284 fired by Loyola-Chicago. EMU finished with a two-day total of 879 (301-296-282) on the par 72, 6,657-yard Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club.
The team finished 25 strokes behind Loyola (Md.), which captured the team title with a 10-under 854. Miami took second place with a nine-under 855, while the RedHawks' Brett Podobinksi was the individual champion at seven-under 209 and teammate Danny Fisher carded a 210 to grab runner-up honors. The RedHawks also had Morgan Blythe tie for third alongside Xavier's Zach Burton as both posted final scores of 211.
Senior Cam Kellett (London, Ontario/Saint Thomas Aquinas/Nevada) continued his strong spring, finishing in a tie for fifth place with a three-day total of 212 (71-71-69). The London, Ontario, native's showing marked Kellett's fifth top-five finish during his EMU career.
How It Happened
Behind Kellett, junior Patrick Deardorff (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) and junior Zander Gibson (Concord, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin/Rider) tied for 29th. Deardorff posted rounds of 75, 74, and 71, while Gibson notched rounds of 74, 77, and 69. Sophomore Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario/Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute) added a 228 (80-75-75), and freshman Avery Mahoney (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) added a 238 (83-76-79). As an individual, sophomore Sam Yono II (West Bloomfield, Mich./Brother Rice) turned in a 253 (87-82-84).
