KEWADIN, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University freshman Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) turned heads in her collegiate debut at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational, Sept. 3-4. Playing in her first EMU event, the Aldie, Va., native displayed remarkable consistency throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 15th place. She carded scores of 75, 79, and an impressive 70 in the final round, for an eight-over 224 on the par 72, 5,832-yard A-Ga-Ming Sundance course.
Eastern Michigan finished tied for eighth as a team with a cumulative score of 915 (309-307-299). Abilene Christian took home the team title with a three-round mark of 861 (289-282-290), while Oakland (877) and Bradley (887) followed closely behind. Oakland's Bridget Boczar captured medalist honors with a 206 total (65-74-67). The 206 was a 54-hole tournament record and her first-round 65 also was a tournament 18-hole record.
How It Happened
In her return to the lineup after redshirting last season, senior Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) secured a tie for 23rd place, demonstrating her skill and resilience. Her rounds of 75, 79, and 73 added up to a commendable total score of 227.
Senior Natai Apichonlati (Bangkok, Thailand/The Regent's International School) showcased her determination, finishing tied for 34th place with a 231 (80-73-78). After winning the event in 2022, junior Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario/Tommy Douglas Secondary School) exhibited steady play, securing a tie for 45th with a 235 (79-77-79). Senior Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) rounded out the scoring, finishing with a 236 (80-78-78) in a tie for 48th place.
Playing as individuals, freshman Gabriella Tapp (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) posted rounds of 82, 75, and 80 in her first EMU event, finishing tied for 50th place with a total score of 237. Senior Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich./Livonia Franklin) also made her return to competition after sitting out the 2022-23 campaign, by finishing tied for 55th with a 242 (78-80-84).
