Eagles unable to overcome early deficit in first road game of the year
ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a tough road game at Oakland University Sunday, Aug. 20, with an early goal being the difference in a 1-0 setback in Rochester, Mich. The Eagles fell to 0-1-1 on the year while the Golden Grizzlies improved to 1-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles found themselves down early as the Golden Grizzlies grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 5'. On the play, the OU offense made its way down the right wing with Macey Wierenga slotting a pass across the six where Anuhea Aluli hit home for the lead. Things changed quickly less than four minutes later as Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich./Lansing Catholic) was pulled down from behind by OU's Sara Ivandic, who was shown a red card, putting the hosts down one player the remainder of the game. Despite the man advantage, the Eagles fired shot after shot, but were unable to find the equalizer.
