KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) notched consecutive rounds of 72 to equal her career-low with a 224 (80-72-72) Tuesday, March 2, Kiawah Island Classic. The Bend, Ore. native tied for the fifth-lowest round during the tournament's final day to finish tied for 22nd at the par 72, 5,958 yard Oak Point Golf Club.
It tied for her best 54-hole tally, equaling a 224 she fired at the Rio Verde Invitational, Feb. 22-24, 2020, with rounds of 73, 74, and 77. Additionally, it was Loberg's fourth career top-25 showing in six all-time tournaments.
One day after shaving 17 strokes off its opening round tally, Eastern Michigan turned in a 314 to finish the event with a 943 (323-306-314) in 31st-place. Dallas Baptist cruised to the tournament title with a 865 (292-277-296), finishing 27 shots better than the College of Charleston (892). East Tennessee State (895), Northern Illinois (896), Stetson (898), Murray State (901), Jacksonville State (904), USC Upstate (904), James Madison (909), Missouri State (912), and Elon (912) rounded out the top-10.
Freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) had a strong debut for the Eagles, posting a 238 (77-75-86) to finish in a tie for 131st. Senior Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio- Anthony Wayne) added a 241 (82-79-80) to go along with a 246 (84-80-82) from freshman Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin). Freshman Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) rounded out the lineup with a 254 (87-87-80).
Earning time as an individual, freshman Tatyana Nyambane (Nairobi, Kenya-Nord Anglia International School Dubai) wrapped up her stay in the Palmetto State with a 273 (89-83-101).
Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2021 edition of the tournament field included 41 teams and was be played at two courses. Following Monday's second round, the top 19 teams played for the championship at Cougar Point, while teams 20-41 fought for a flight championship at Oak Point.
Head Coach Stephanie Jennings and crew will waste no time getting back to action March 8-9 at the Benbow Collegiate in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
