Eagles Clinch MAC Tournament Berth With 3-1 Win Over Central Michigan

Hullibarger notched 50th career point

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Battling through sleet and snow, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team clinched their spot in the Mid-American Conference tournament with a 3-1 win over Central Michigan University, Oct. 31.

The Eagles dominated possession from the start, getting two shots off and keeping the ball in their attacking half for the first 10 minutes. However, it was Central Michigan that opened the scoring, finding the back of the net in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Eastern turned things around 13 minutes later. In the 27th minute, redshirt senior Kristin Hullibarger (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) crossed the ball to redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street), who in turn snuck it past the Chippewas' goalkeeper to tie the game at one.

10 minutes later, redshirt junior Nicole Remedios (Ajax, Ontario-Archbishop Dennis O'Connor) perfectly placed a corner kick to the head of junior Haley Tausend (Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) for the game-winner and the 2-1 lead for the Eagles.

In the second half, the Green and White added an insurance goal to their lead. In the 61st minute, McNeill's shot deflected off the CMU keeper to Hullibarger. She in turned tapped it to freshman Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) who sent it to the back of the net to seal the win for Eastern, 3-1.

Junior Chelsea Abbotts (Ottawa, Ontario-Mother Theresa) picked up two saves on the afternoon. Hullibarger led the Eagles with two assists, which notched her 50th career point as an Eagle. In addition, Tausend recorded her first goal of the season. EMU out-shot the Chips 17-to-10 and seven-to-three in shots on goal, while also edging CMU in corners, three-to-two.

Eastern Michigan will face second-seeded Ball State Sunday, Nov. 3 in Muncie, Ind. at 1 p.m.
