Eastern still 4-1-1 in the MAC

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Miami University at Scicluna Field Sunday, Oct. 11, as two goals 40 seconds apart in the 75th minute broke a tied match and snapped the Eagles' nine-game unbeaten streak.

Eastern fell to 6-2-4 overall and 4-1-1 in MAC play, while Miami improved to 7-5-3 overall and 3-1-3 in conference action. The loss ended a nine-game unbeaten run — Aug. 27 through Oct. 4 — that had tied the program record for longest unbeaten streak. It also marked the first time this season an opponent scored more than one goal against the Eagles, who had allowed just four goals across their first 11 games.

How It Happened
Eastern nearly struck first when Avery Hilvert (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) rattled the right woodwork in the ninth minute, a chance that would have changed the match's early complexion.

Miami broke the deadlock in the 26th minute to take the lead, 1-0.

Eastern answered immediately after the break. Christie Fransen (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster/Bowling Green) stepped up and converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute to level the match at 1-1, her fifth goal of the season and her fourth penalty kick conversion in as many attempts this year.

The equalizer held until the 75th minute, when Miami retook the lead, 2-1, before adding a penalty kick conversion just 40 seconds later to extend the advantage to 3-1 and put the match out of reach.

Lauren Yaquinto (Northville, Mich./Northville) led Eastern with two shots and two shots on goal in 71 minutes, forcing saves from the Miami goalkeeper in both halves.
