Eastern seeking to get back on track Saturday, Oct. 24, against Toledo

ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Ohio University at Peden Stadium Sunday, Oct. 18, falling on a first-half goal that proved to be the match's only score.

Eastern generated 13 shots — its highest single-match total since a 14-shot effort against Central Michigan on Sept. 20 — but could not convert against the Ohio goalkeeper, who made four saves to preserve the clean sheet. The loss extended EMU's losing streak to three consecutive matches and dropped the Eagles to 6-4-4 overall and 4-3-1 in MAC play.

How It Happened

Ohio wasted little time breaking the deadlock, scoring in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead just 7:56 into the match — an advantage they would not relinquish.

Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) started and played all 90 minutes in goal for Eastern, making four saves to keep the Eagles within striking distance. Ohio held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal, but Holland's efforts prevented the deficit from growing.

Olivia Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) led Eastern Michigan in total shots with four attempts. Her shot on goal in the 23rd minute — struck from 16 yards out — drew a strong save from the Ohio keeper. Ciara Brown (Wyandanch, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Auburn) had a close-range effort saved in 41 minutes off the bench, and Avery Hilvert (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) saw her attempt sail just over the bar. Lauren Yaquinto (Northville, Mich./Northville) added three shots across 38 minutes of action, and Tayla Maddock (Camlachie, Ontario/St. Patrick's Catholic High School) started and logged 66 minutes, recording one shot on goal in a physical contest that saw both sides commit fouls throughout the afternoon.

Eastern pressed in the second half but could not find an equalizer, as the Ohio goalkeeper denied all four of EMU's shots on goal to secure the shutout.
