NORTHVILLE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team traveled to Northville, Mich. for the 29th Annual Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational Saturday, Sept. 12. The team placed three harriers in the top 10 and finished in first place with a total of 44 points. Similar to the EMU Celebration event, the team utilized a lineup focusing on the development of returners and gaining experience for the newcomers.
The Eagles were once again paced by Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio - Defiance), who crossed the finish line in 20:20.2, good for second place. Just behind him was Cameron Trinh (Oakland, Calif. - Skyline) in third place with a time of 20:24.1 and Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. - Hillsborough) rounding out the top 10 in 21:12.8.
In addition, the team was represented by five freshmen as well. Leading the newcomers was Morgan O'Flahrity (Madison, Wis. - Edgewood) in 14th place with a time of 21:18.4. Right on O'Flahrity's heels was Alec Keaton (Allen Park, Mich. - Allen Park) in 15th place, who crossed the finish line in 21:19.1, less than a second after his teammate. Battling for the 20th and 21st spots were Brendan Utz (Jackson, Mich. - Michigan Center) and Adam Beck (Rochester Hills, Mich. - Rochester Adams), with Utz crossing the finish line in 21:40.1 and Beck right behind him with a time of 21:40.8. Rounding out the newcomers was Christian Lopez (Moreno Valley, Calif. - Vista Del Lago) in 37th place and a time of 22:30.0.
Head coach John Goodridge was impressed with the performance of his young lineup. He explained that today's race was "a nice implementation of of our race plan by an overall young and inexperienced lineup capped off by an excellent late race effort by senior Cameron Trinh passing Detroit's top three scorers and having a very significant impact on the team score."
The Green and White continue their 2015 season at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. next Friday, Sept. 18.
