Cross Country Set for Joe Piane Invitational Friday in South Bend

The men begin at 10:40 a.m., the women run at 12 p.m.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's cross country programs make their third appearance of the 2026 season Friday when they compete at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.

The men's 8k beigns at 10:40 a.m., with the women's 5k to follow at 12 p.m. Live results can be found on our schedule page here.
 
Last Time at the Joe Piane Invitational
Eastern Michigan made a strong showing at the 2025 Joe Piane Invitational, with the women's squad earning a third-place finish in the Open 5k with 85 points and the men's team placing eighth in the Gold 8k with 211 points.

On the women's side, Liv Hatch (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) led Eastern Michigan with a 10th-place finish and a personal-best time of 17:42.1. Sophie Emin (Easton, Pa./Easton Area/Rutgers) placed 65th in 19:07.5, while Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran) finished 77th in 19:31.3 and Frankie Moore (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) placed 83rd in 19:39.4. Alynna Wilson (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) finished in 125th place with a time of 22:32.4.

For the men, Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) was the top Eagle, finishing 20th overall in 24:52.1. Ty Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) followed in 25th at 24:59.7, and Isaac Garcia (Greely, Colo./South County) placed 32nd in 25:04.3. Jimmy Geller (London, England/Davenant Foundation School) finished 95th in a personal-best 26:08.4, while Ronan Codyre (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College) placed 110th in 26:20.6. In the Open 8k, Ben Mussen (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) posted a personal-best 27:25.9 to finish 110th.

Last Time Out
The men last competed at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., Friday, Sept. 11. Wiles paced the Eagles with a 10th-place finish in 24:46.3. Dailey was next in 37th place at 25:33.9, followed by Mohammed Mohammed (Cary, N.C./Green Level) in 40th at a personal-best 25:40.6 — his first collegiate 8k. Blake Rodgers (Belpre, Ohio/Belpre/Wright State) placed 72nd in 26:23.4 and Garcia rounded out the scoring five in 78th at 26:28.7.

The women last competed at the George Dales Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich., Friday, Sept. 18. Christiana Coleman (Pompano Beach, Fla./Dillard/Florida) led the Eagles with a 16th-place finish in 21:45.1. Mercy Chepkemoi (Molo, Kenya/Kaplelach Secondary School) was close behind in 19th at a personal-best 21:49.5. Mara Longenecker (Freeland, Mich./Freeland/Michigan) placed 29th in 22:15.9, while Emin finished 46th in a personal-best 22:40.3. Kaiya Fujioka (Whitby, Ontario/Brooklin) rounded out the scoring five in 55th at a personal-best 22:47.3. Also setting personal bests on the day were Erika Van Loton (Garden City, Mich./Huron Valley Lutheran) (22:49.3), Kaelyn Becken (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) (22:49.8) and Ella Luker (Columbus, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) (23:29.1).

Following the Joe Piane Invitational, both the Eastern Michigan men's and women's cross country programs will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-National Invitational Friday, Oct. 16. The women's race is set for 10 a.m. and the men's race for 10:40 a.m.
