YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –– Before the regular season tips-off in just 12 days, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team is set for exhibition action Friday, Nov. 2, at the Convocation Center. In the team's first of two exhibition contests, the Eagles battle Madonna University at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
First-year Head Coach Tory Verdi inherits an EMU squad that returns nine letterwinners and three starters from a 2011-12 squad that finished with a 23-9 overall record and a 13-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Prior to the start of the contest, the Eagles will raise another banner to celebrate its MAC West Division and MAC Tournament Championships along with distributing the championship rings.
The Eagles and Crusaders are meeting in the preseason for the third time in the past four seasons. Last season, EMU cruised to a 99-42 win at the Convocation Center, Nov. 5, 2011. Tavelyn James (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) led the Eagles with 32 points while sophomore Olivia Fouty (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Northview) scored 16 points with eight rebounds, and India Hairston (Flint, Mich.-Hamady) tallied 11 points with 12 rebounds.
The game will not be streamed on Eagle All-Access, but live stats will be available at EMUEagles.com.
EMU will then close out the exhibition schedule Tuesday, Nov. 6, when Wayne State University comes to town.
The Eagles will open their 37th season on the hardwood Sunday, Nov. 11, against Northeastern University at the Convocation Center.
