GREENWOOD, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University women's basketball student athletes Ainhoa Cea and Fernanda Ovalle were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday, March 24.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or later and carry a minimum grade-point average of 3.50 or higher academically while either appearing in 90% of the team's games or starting in 66% of the team's contests.

Cea (Irun, Spain/IES Pio Baroja Bhi/Lipscomb) earned the honor for the second time after doing so at Lipscomb following the 2024-25 campaign. Cea posts a 4.00 GPA as an Elementary Early Childhood Teaching and Learning major while starting in all 29 games for the Eagles this season. She led the team, averaging 5.9 assists per game, ranking second in the MAC. The senior guard dished a total of 172 assists, tying Erika Ford (2003-04) for the fourth-most in EMU single-season history. She was part of a select national group that averaged over 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Ovalle (Santiago, Chile/Montverde Academy/Xavier) saw action in all 29 games while starting 28 times. She holds a 3.60 GPA as a Psychology major and collected the academic recognition for the first time in her career. On the court, Ovalle is the highest scoring Chilean-born student-athlete in NCAA history as she totals 594 points in her NCAA tenure. She was named MAC Player of the Week, Jan. 6, after posting the second double-double of her career, scoring a career-high 26 points with a season-high 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal, leading the Eagles to an 86-76 victory against Bowling Green, Dec. 30.
