Box Score
KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five matches after making quick work of the Kent State University Golden Flashes in a convincing, 2-0, Mid-American Conference road victory at Kent State Soccer Field Friday, Oct. 8.
EMU controlled the match from both ends of the field, scoring two first-half goals in tune with another fantastic effort in goal by Monique Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair), who posted her fourth shutout of the season and 20th of her career.
With the win, the Eagles return above the .500-mark for the first time since early September, moving their record to 6-5-3 overall, while remaining unbeaten in MAC play with a 3-0-2 mark. Kent State falls to 1-7-4 (0-4-1 MAC) with the loss.
The Eagles cracked the scoreboard twice in the first-half when Paige Sheridan (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Mercy) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season – and third in the last four games – in the 12th minute. The senior took an accurate through-ball from Maggie Christensen (Orland Park, Ill.-AA Stagg) and blasted a shot past KSU goalie Kelly Sherwood to make it 1-0 Eagles.
Chelsea Detrick (Grosse Pointe, Mich.-North) knocked in a loose ball in the 30th minute to make it 2-0 heading into halftime. It was her third score of the year.
That was all the Eagles would need as Budani made seven saves, including three in the second half to preserve the shutout. EMU won despite being out-shot, 14-9, and getting called for seven offsides penalties compared to none for KSU.
EMU will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 10, when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on the University at Buffalo. The Eagles and Bulls are slated to begin at noon. Live stats and video will be available.
