SCOUTING THE GOLDEN FLASHES:
Kent State University in 1-6-4 overall and 0-3-1 through its first four Mid-American Conference matches, snapping a three-match losing skid with a draw at Northern Illinois in its last time out. Goals have come at a premium for the Golden Flashes this year as they have been outscored 19-9 thus far. Jessacca Gironda leads the squad with five goals and two assists on the season while Kelly Heaton has added two goals as well. In 10 starts in goal, Kelly Sherwood has made 42 saves with a 1.66 GAA and .700 save percentage.

A LOOK AT THE BULLS: The University at Buffalo is 1-10-1 overall with an 0-3-1 ledger MAC action. The Bulls have played just one match thus far at home and were victorious after defeating St. Bonaventure by a score of 3-2 back on Sept. 3. UB has struggled on the offensive end this year, scoring just eight goals while allowing 30 to its opponents through 12 matches this season. Megan Abman has scored three goals to lead the Bulls while Natasha Arana has added two. In 10 starts in net, Ainsley Wheldon has made 66 saves with a 2.39 GAA and a .710 save percentage.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles remained unbeaten in their two matches last weekend, surviving in a cross-divisional shootout with a 6-4 victory over Bowling Green State University Friday, Oct. 1. Nine goals were scored in the second half and 10 different players recorded goals for the match. Cara Cutaia scored her first career goal in the 37th minute of EMU's road opener against MAC East Division leader Miami. The score stood until the 88th minute when RedHawks finally broke through for the equalizer. Two overtimes couldn't settle the score as both settled for a 1-1 draw. The Eagles remained unbeaten and just one-of-three MAC teams without a loss this season.

MAC WEST DOMINANCE: The Eagles are one-of-three remaining unbeaten teams in the MAC, all of which side in the West Division (Toledo, Central Michigan). Friday, Oct. 1, West Division teams won five of the six cross-divisional meetings over East Division teams and followed that up with a 2-1-3 record Sunday, Oct. 3. Eastern Michigan will look to continue the trend as it takes on two more MAC East Division foes, Kent State and Buffalo, this weekend.

CLARKE EARNS FIRST POW AWARD: Freshman Stephanie Clarke has driven the EMU offense to the tune of a four-game unbeaten streak. She has now recorded at least one point in three straight games, scoring a goal and chipping in three assists in a 6-4 victory over Bowling Green before assisting on the lone Eagle goal in a 1-1 draw with MAC East leader Miami. She leads the team with 11 points on the season, all of which have come in the previous three games. Her services on corner kicks have proved to be lethal in recent games as three of her five assists have benefitted from precise services into the box.

OFFENSE COMES TO LIFE: After being shutout in two straight matches at Nevada and in the conference opener against Ohio, the Eagles have posted 11 goals in its last three contests. EMU notched a 4-1 victory over Akron Sunday, Sept. 26, which had been the most goals scored by an Eagle squad since recording five goals in a shutout win over Loyola College (Md.) Sept. 13, 2009. But then they followed it up with a six-goal effort in a 6-4 win over Bowling Green at home on Friday, Oct. 1. EMU faces Buffalo and Kent State this weekend, which are near the bottom of the league in goals allowed.

EXCEPTIONAL START: For the second season in a row, EMU begins the conference portion of its schedule unbeaten through its first four matches. The last time the Eagles started unbeaten through their first five matches was 2003 before they went on to win their second MAC regular season title. The Green and White is coming off back-to-back seasons in which it placed second in the overall standings and made it to at least the semifinal round in the MAC Tournament with a runner-up finish in 2008.

MAC ROAD SUCCESS: The Eagles have gone 10 straight regular season MAC road matches unbeaten dating back to 2008. EMU suffered its last conference road loss to Northern Illinois by a score of 1-0 back on Oct. 28, 2007. They are 4-0-6 during their current streak and will try to extend it this weekend against Kent State and Buffalo.
