TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Janae Leovao recorded six birdies to push herself into the individual lead and help the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team into a tie for fourth place at the 2026 NCAA Tallahassee Regional that was played Monday, May 11, at Seminole Legacy Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. Eastern, who is seeded fifth in Florida, is making its NCAA debut in 2026 and has positioned itself well for a berth into the national tournament as the top five teams in the final standings, May 13, will advance.
As a team, the Eagles shot 1-under 287 in their opening round to sit in a tie for the University of Louisiana-Monroe for fourth place while No. 3 University of Florida leads the overall standings at 5-under 283. Host and 25th-ranked Florida State University is tied for second at 3-under 285 on its home course with No. 9 Wake Forest University also shooting 3-under 285. The next three teams in the standings behind the Eagles and Warhawks include No. 15 University of California Los Angeles in sixth at 2-over 290 with both No. 34 University of Kentucky and No. 46 Clemson University tied for seventh at 3-over 291.
Individually, Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), who started from the No. 10 tee, opened her round with a bogey before recording four birdies over her final five holes on the back nine before seeing a bogey on No. 1 halt the streak. She added two more birdies over her final eight holes to shoot 4-under 68 and build a one-streak lead over five players that are tied at 3-under 69. Leovao is no stranger to the top of the leaderboard as she opened the 2025-26 season with back-to-back victories - the first of her collegiate career - with wins at The Southern (Sept. 8-9) and the Leadership & Golf Invitational (Sept. 15-16).
Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia), who is coming off a third-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships (April 26-28), sits tied for 18th at even-par 72 with Baiyok Sukterm (Bang Yi, Thailand/Panitchayakan Rajdamnern Tech/Lindsey Wilson) just behind her at 1-over 73, which has her tied for 22nd. Jasmine Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State) and Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) are tied for 32nd after shooting 2-over 72 in their opening rounds.
Team Notes

» The 287 turned in by the Eagles tied for the 18th-lowest single-round score in program history. It also marked the 23rd time (in 33 rounds) this season that Eastern has shot 290 or lower and the 28th time (in 33 rounds) under Josh Brewer the Eagles have shot 290 or lower since Brewer took over ahead of the 2024-25 season.
