Highlights

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team battled throughout but were unable to overcome a strong scoring attack as the University of Massachusetts took a 14-4 Mid-American Conference win at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti, April 11. The Eagles (8-6, 3-2 MAC) held the Minutewomen (12-2, 5-0 MAC) under their 16.9 goals per game average, which ranked second nationally entering the game, as Maddy Porter recorded 16 saves, which tied for the 14th-highest single-game total among NCAA Division I goalkeepers this year.

How It Happened
The teams played 7:14 before the first goal was scored as UMass grabbed a 2-0 lead before Eastern responded as Tracy Grollman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) put Eastern Michigan on the board with a woman-up goal at 2:07, assisted by Kelsea Dague (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), to cut into the visitor's lead. The Minutewomen responded with two more goals to lead 4-1 after one. In the second quarter, Emerson Henry (Ashburn, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) converted a free position shot before Mackenzie Blackwell (North Beach, Md./Northern) finished a feed from Grollman, trimming the deficit to 4-3 with under eight minutes left in the half. UMass answered with a three-goal run to close the second, sending EMU into halftime trailing, 7-3.

After intermission, Blackwell added her second goal of the day, once again assisted by Grollman, but UMass seized control with four consecutive scores to make it 11-4 after three quarters. The Eagles were held without a goal in the fourth quarter for the first time all season as UMass closed with three more tallies to cap a 14-4 victory. Despite being held to one goal in the final half, Porter (Montrose, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) did her part to try and keep the Eagles in the contest as she recorded 11 of her 16 saves in the final 30 minutes, including six in the third quarter and five in the fourth.

Individual Notes
» Mackenzie Blackwell led the team with three points on two goals and one assist while adding a team-high three draw controls. The two goals marked the 12th time in 14 games this year she has scored multiple goals and the 50th time in her career she netted two or more scores in a single game (63 games played). Blackwell has now scored at least one goal in 10 consecutive games.
» Mackenzie Blackwell brought her season total to 50 points, marking the third consecutive season she has tallied at least 50. Blackwell, who has recorded at least one point in all 14 games this year, tallied a program-record 54 points in 2024 before upping the mark to the current standard of 65 last year.
» Tracy Grollman added three points on one goal and two assists to bring her season total to 30 helpers. The only player in EMU history to reach the 20, 25, and 30-assist milestones, Grollman brought her season total to 46 points, which tied her with Sydney Lawrence (2024) for fourth on the single-season chart and leaving her four points from becoming only the second Eagles to reach 50 points in a career. Grollman has scored three or more points in six consecutive games with at least two assists in nine consecutive games.
» Emerson Henry scored one goal in the game to extend her streak to nine consecutive games with at least one goal. Henry, who scored her goal on a free-position shot, added one ground ball and one caused turnover in the game.
» Maddy Porter recorded 16 saves while adding six ground balls and one caused turnover to her totals. The 16 saves tied for the fourth-highest total in program history while tying the mark for a MAC game after she recorded 16 in the opener with Kent State earlier this year (March 14). It also marked the third time in 2026 she has made 16+ stops in a single game after halting 21 at Vanderbilt (March 4).
» With her 16 saves, Maddy Porter became only the third goalkeeper this season to record three or more games with 16+ stops. Louisville's Haley Richards leads the way with five games while Micaela Jennings of Lehigh is next with four. Porters' 21 saves at Vanderbilt (March 4) remain tied for the most by a goalkeeper in an NCAA Division I game this season.
» Annika Wozney (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) tallied three caused turnovers and two ground balls, marking the second time this year she has posted at least two in both categories in the same game and back-to-back games with at least two caused turnovers. Her three takeaways against UMass stood as a season high and brought her career total to 47, the second-highest in program history.
» Both Karly Low (Owen Sound, Ontario/Owen Sound District Secondary) and Haley Hodak (Severn, Md./Old Mill) recorded one caused turnover each as both moved up the career ledger. Low is now No. 3 all-time with 46 while Hodak is No. 4 with 40, making her only the fourth player to reach 40 in a career.

Team Notes
» Eastern fell to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in MAC play while UMass moved to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in league action.
» The game marked the first in the series between the Eagles and Minutewomen.
» Eastern is 2-2 this year when facing an opponent for the first time. The Eagles defeated Lindenwood, 14-11, at home, Feb. 11, before winning 13-10 at Austin Peay, March 1. The other loss was an 11-8 setback at Vanderbilt, March 4.
» The defense recorded 13 caused turnovers, tying for the ninth-highest total in a single game and tied for the third-highest against a MAC opponent.
» The four goals marked the first time this season the Eagles were held under eight. It also marked only the ninth time in program history Eastern scored five or fewer goals in a game.
