USAFA, Colo. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern travels west for a Friday night tri-meet in Colorado, as the team competes at the Air Force Tri-Meet against Boise State and Kent State Friday, Jan. 23, at 9 p.m. ET at Cadet West Gym in USAFA, Colo. The meet will stream on the Mountain West Network.

As EMU gymnastics marks its 50th varsity season in 2026, the program stands among the longest-running in the Mid-American Conference after launching in 1976 and competing when the MAC began sponsoring women's gymnastics in 1981. The Kent State gymnastics program began in 1959, making it among the earliest in the nation and within the league. Northern Illinois began its gymnastics program in 1978. Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Ball State, and Bowling Green all competed as MAC members when the conference first sponsored the sport in 1981.

LAST TIME VS. AIR FORCE
The most recent meeting with Air Force took place March 7, 2021, inside the Convocation Center during a Senior Day quad meet. Eastern posted a 194.450 team score to finish second overall and topped Air Force, which scored 192.200. The meet closed with a strong floor rotation, highlighted by Jada Rondeau and Shannon Gregory, who each scored 9.850 to lead the event. Raisa Boris added a 9.825 on floor, while Carly Kosanovich followed with a 9.800 as the team surged late. On beam, Hadyn Crossen and Rondeau each recorded 9.825, while Mickayla Stuckey matched her season high with a 9.800. Kara Roberts led vault with a 9.825, tying her career high, and Cortney Bezold paced bars with a 9.850. The performance sealed a head to head win over Air Force and extended the winning streak in the series to four straight meets.
SERIES HISTORY VS. AIR FORCE
Eastern and Air Force have met 14 times since the series began Feb. 27, 2008, with Eastern holding a 10-4 advantage. Eastern has won seven of the last 10 matchups and has been dominant at home with a perfect 5-0 record. Road meets have produced a 3-4 mark. Across the series, the two programs have averaged 193 points per meet.
LAST TIME VS. KENT STATE
The most recent meeting with Kent State came Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, where Eastern dropped a tight Mid-American Conference decision, 195.425-194.525. Competing in the Purple and Alumni Meet, Eastern produced steady scores across the lineup, highlighted by Raisa Boris winning the all-around with a season-best 39.175. Boris also led the floor with a 9.875 and paced vault at 9.750. On beam, Ella Chemotti claimed the event title with a season-high 9.850, while Kyrie Lowe and Boris followed closely at 9.825. Lowe added a 9.825 on bars to lead that rotation, as Eastern posted its strongest beam score of the day at 48.925 but finished just short despite consistent performances across all four events.
SERIES HISTORY VS. KENT STATE
Eastern and Kent State share a long Mid-American Conference history dating back to Jan. 18, 2003. Since records began in 2003, Eastern holds a 6-19 record against the Golden Flashes, with a 5-8 mark at home and a 1-10 record on the road. Kent State has won five straight in the series and seven of the last 10 meetings. Eastern's largest win in the series came March 15, 2019, with a 196.025-193.900 victory, while the narrowest win followed Feb. 14, 2021, by a 195.825-195.650 margin. Across 25 meetings, the series has averaged 194 points per meet, reflecting consistent high-level scoring on both sides.
NEW FOE, WHO DIS?
This meet marks the first-ever matchup between Eastern Michigan and Boise State. Boise State competes in the Mountain West Conference and fields one of the league's most consistent programs on the West Coast. The Broncos are led by head coach Tina Bird, who has guided the program since 2006 and built a reputation for steady lineups and strong event depth. Boise State is located in Boise, Idaho, and hosts home meets inside ExtraMile Arena.

BARS BELONG TO LOWE
Eastern took control on bars with a 48.050 team score, led by Kyrie Lowe, who claimed first place with a 9.825. The routine set the tone for the rotation as Gwen Cantu and Genae Daniel both posted career highs, scoring 9.700 and 9.675. Analiah Solorio added a steady 9.650 to keep the momentum on Eastern's side.
BEAM BUILT ON BALANCE
The beam lineup followed with a 48.650 team total. Katin Childress placed second in the event with a 9.800, while Solorio stayed close behind at 9.775. Lowe delivered a 9.750, Keeley Kohler added a 9.700, and freshman Macy Nihart closed the rotation with a career-best 9.625.
FLOOR CLOSES IT OUT
Eastern finished strong on floor with a 48.500, season best. Lowe tied for first with a 9.800, matching her career best. Savanna Dunwoody recorded a career-high 9.725, while Nihart added another personal best with a 9.650. Priya Karle scored 9.725 and Abby Brushwood followed with a 9.600 to secure the team win.
ALL-AROUND AUTHORITY
Lowe capped the meet by winning the all-around with a 38.825, the top score of the day. Her performance included event win on bars.

MINASOLA LEADS THE WAY
»Katie Minasola enters her ninth season as head coach, taking over the program in July 2017 and guiding it through eight completed seasons.
Eastern owns a 52-74-1 overall record and a 16-32 MAC mark during Minasola's tenure, highlighted by steady postseason presence and individual success.
» The Eagles captured the MAC Championship in 2021 with a 195.900 team score, earning the program's fourth league title and a team berth to NCAA Regionals.
»Eastern has produced NCAA Regional qualifiers in six of Minasola's eight full seasons, including team qualification in 2021 and multiple individual qualifiers in every postseason since 2018.
»Minasola has coached three MAC major award winners, including Raisa Boris as MAC Gymnast of the Year in 2024, Boris as MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year in 2024 and 2025, Ella Chemotti as MAC Freshman of the Year in 2022, and Caitlin Satler as MAC Specialist of the Year in 2021.

HAPPY TO HELP
Sam Higgins enters her sixth season on staff and has overseen the beam lineup since 2022. Under her guidance, the beam squad ranked 22nd nationally in her first year, the highest event ranking in program history, while Ella Chemotti qualified for NCAA Regionals with a MAC-leading 9.875 NQS and earned First Team All-MAC honors. Higgins played a key role in the 2021 MAC Championship season and the program's NCAA Regional team appearance, while also helping produce multiple All-MAC selections and five beam scores of 9.900 or higher in a single season. She previously spent 10 years coaching at Gym America and earned her undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan.
Lauren Volpe is in her second season as an assistant coach after joining the staff in July 2024. A former Ball State standout, she brings MAC championship and NCAA Regional experience as both a student-athlete and graduate assistant. Volpe was a multi-year team captain at Ball State, a MAC Specialist of the Week honoree, and a three-time WGCA Scholastic All-American. She is tied for the Ball State beam record at 9.925 and brings conference-tested knowledge and competitive insight to the staff.
Sophia Rios joined the staff after competing for the program and serving as a student-athlete leader. She appeared in 10 meets on vault during the 2023 season and posted a career-high 9.700, while also earning Academic All-MAC and WCGA Academic All-America honors. Rios brings first-hand program experience to the coaching staff, pairing competitive insight with an academic background in mechanical engineering and contributing to athlete development across the vault lineup.
ON THE HORIZON
Eastern returns home Thursday, Jan. 29, to host Wilberforce in the First Responders Meet at 6 p.m. inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The meet will stream on ESPN+.
