The senior won back-to-back individual titles to help EMU to two tournament wins
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Following back-to-back individual titles, Janae Leovao, a senior on the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team, has been named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today, Sept. 19. Leovao earned the honor in a vote of the conference's head coaches following her medalist finish at the 2025 Leadership & Golf Invitational, Sept. 15-16, at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
Leovao (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Long Beach State), who entered her senior season having never won a collegiate event, captured the title in Washington by shooing 7-over 209 (72-68-69) to post the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. One week removed from winning the title at The Southern in Statesboro, Ga., at Even-par 216, Leovao held on for a one-stroke win at the Leadership & Golf Invitational as she became the only player in EMU history to win back-to-back tournaments.
With a 151-0-1 record this season, Leovao led the way for the Eagles won consecutive tournaments for just the fifth time in program history and the first since 2021-22. At the latest event, Eastern shot 5-under 859 to win the title by four strokes, which included an opening-round 282 that broke the program record for the second-consecutive tournament and helped EMU to its first tournament title (out of its 30 total) in which the Eagles posted a score below par (-5).
Additionally, her wins at the first two tournaments of the season marked the 10th and 11th times in program history that EMU won the individual and team title at the same event. It also marked the first time EMU had a medalist and won the team crown in the same event since Stephany Fleet in 2007 (Saluki Invitational) and 2008 (EKU Spring Invitational).
The Eastern Michigan team returns to action Sept. 22-24 when its competes in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at Red Sky Ranch in Wolcott, Colo.
