YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Women's Golf Coach Josh Brewer continues to build his roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of freshman Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Colombia/ Colegio Karl C. Parrish) today, June 21.
A former Colombia National Junior Team member, she was ranked eighth in the Women's National Junior Ranking, 13th in the Women's National Amateur Ranking, and 888th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Vega's notable achievements include winning the Copa Camilo Villegas Junior Championship in November 2023 and representing Colombia in the National Championship Copa Sur in Mexico and the South American Amateur Open in Colombia. She has a scoring average of 77.5 and secured top finishes in several prestigious tournaments, such as fifth place at both the Nico Open AJGA and the Abierto Ciudad de Manizales.
"Mariana joins us from the rich women's golf country of Colombia," Brewer said. "She has represented her club and country in many events during her young career. I want to thank her and her family for believing in what we are building at Eastern. I must also thank her national Coach, Paola, for trusting us with one of their elite prospects. We expect Mariana to be an important piece of our foundation as we become a staple in the postseason."
She joins sophomore Savannah De Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus - Lycée/Georgia) and senior Amaya Melendez (Ann Arbor, Mich./ Pioneer), who previously announced their commitments to EMU.
