GAME 2 | Ohio 7, Eastern Michigan 4

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team split a doubleheader with Ohio University Saturday, April 13, at Oestrike Stadium. The Eagles topped the Bobcats, 15-6 in game one, while falling, 7-4, in game two.

After the two games, Eastern holds a 13-20 (8-6 MAC) record while Ohio posts a 9-21 (4-12 MAC) record.

How it Happened – Game One
Trailing 1-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the second inning. Eastern Michigan's offense started clicking and put up six runs in the frame, including a grand slam off the bat of Aidan Arbogast (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson/Mid-Michigan/Kellogg C.C.), marking the first bases juiced homer of the season for Eastern.

The Bobcats then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-3 until the Eagles expanded their advantage in the third. Sophomore Cooper Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) came across to score the lone run of the inning for Eastern, which brought the Eagles lead to 7-3.

Ohio narrowed Eastern Michigan's lead to 7-5 before the Eagles stretched the advantage to 10-5 in the sixth inning. EMU scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer from Arbogast that scored Brendan Kleiman (Olney, M.D./Sherwood/Frederick C.C.) and Vance. The homer marked Arbogast's second of the game, and his first multi-homer game at the Division I level.

Eastern Michigan held the Bobcats scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The three-run frame for the Eagles was punctuated by a two-run single off the bat of Vance, bringing the EMU advantage to 13-5.

The Eagles kept Ohio without a run before expanding their lead to 15-5 in the following inning. Eastern Michigan scored twice on Blake McRae's (Armada, Mich./Romeo/Lansing C.C.) two-run homer. Ohio put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Eagles still coasted to the 15-6 win.

Game Notes - Game One
» Cory Taylor (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville) had a triple in the first inning to get the offense started for Eastern Michigan. With the three-bagger, Taylor is tied for second in the MAC in triples with his third of the season, which also leads the Eagles. Taylor ended the game batting 2-for-5 at the dish for his 11th multi-hit game.
» Arbogast sent a ball over the left field wall for a grand slam for the Eagles to give them a three-run lead at the time. It was Arbogast's second home run of the season, and EMU's first grand slam of the season. Arbogast finished the game with seven RBI and two homers, marking the most RBI in the season thus far for an Eagle while also going down as his first multi-homer game as a Division I player.
» McRae had an RBI double of his own in the bottom of the second inning that scored one run for the Eagles. The double was McRae's seventh of the 2024 season, and his 12th extra base hit of the year. McRae finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and a homer, marking his 15th multi-hit game and eighth game with multiple RBI, and his fifth long ball of the year.
» Giano Zuccaro (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea Midpark/Charleston) had a single for the Eagles to cap off a six-run second inning for Eastern Michigan. Zuccaro is one of five Eagles with 20 or more runs batted in on the year.

» Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater) had three hits to help the Eagles' offense, marking his first three-hit game of the season.
» Bobby Jones (Loveland, Ohio/St. Xavier/Xavier) set an EMU season-high and career-high in strikeouts as he sent 10 Bobcats packing via the punchout..
» Eastern Michigan had a total of 15 runs and 19 hits in the win over the Bobcats. It is the ninth time this season in which they have scored at least 10 runs and had at least 10 hits in the same game. The team possesses a record of 7-2 in those games.

How it Happened – Game Two
Trailing 3-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Eastern plated two runs off of Ohio pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Taylor.

The Eagles deficit grew to 5-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the eighth inning. Eastern Michigan pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Kyle Schroedle (Redding, California/University Prep/Crown College) that brought home Lucas Johnson (Hamilton, Ontario/ Westdale Secondary/Wright State) and Zuccaro, which tightened the Bobcats lead to 5-4.

The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Ohio added two runs to their tally on the way to a 7-4 final.

Game Notes - Game Two
» Eastern Michigan got their first run in the second game on an RBI double for Taylor. The double was Taylor's second extra base hit of the day.
