YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Despite a ninth-inning rally, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell in the rubber-match against the Ohio University Bobcats, 9-4, Sunday, April 14, at Oestrike Stadium.
Junior Andrew Dukesherer (Byron Center, Mich./Grandville/Muskegon C.C.) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits, while walking one and striking out two.
Kyle Schroedle's (Redding, Calif./University Prep/Crown College) two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day at the plate, including one double, one home run, and three RBI. Junior Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber) went 1-for-4 from the dish with an RBI. Senior Logan Milene (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century/North Iowa Area C.C.) also contributed for the Eagles, barreling a double in his lone trip to the batter's box.
How it Happened
Trailing 5-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Eastern Michigan plated two runs when Schroedle left the yard with junior Brendan Kleiman (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Frederick C.C.) aboard.
The Eagles deficit grew to 9-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the ninth inning. Eastern scored two runs, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Schroedle, which tightened the Bobcats lead to 9-4.
The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
Game Notes
» Schroedle hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. It was his team-leading eighth homer of the year, which surpasses his season total from last year (seven). Additionally, Schroedle had an RBI double for the Eagles in the bottom of the ninth inning, marking the fourth game this year in which he has recorded multiple extra-base hits. He ended the game with three RBI, one shy of tying his season-high (four) set against Belmont University, Feb. 18. Schroedle is up to nine multi-RBI outings on the season, the second-most on the team.
» Milene hit a double in the bottom of the eighth inning. The two-bagger was Milene's second extra base hit of the season.
» Allowing just one earned run in his appearance, Dukesherer has now allowed one earned run or less in 7-of-12 appearances in the 2024 campaign.
» Hugo recorded an RBI single of his own in the ninth inning, he is now four hits from reaching 100 in his career, while the RBI went down as his 18th of the season.
Historical Notes
» Sunday's game marked the 141st all-time meeting between Eastern Michigan and Ohio. Eastern Michigan remains in the all-time series lead, 71-70.
